Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum vs GTX 680

Not spending 300+ euro/dollars on a ref card is immoral and that means you cannot be saved!

Still you do not reply to my question.

The only reference that can be found costs £350. Which is madness because I can get 2 7950s for that money and probably I will be able to get a R9 290 which is new chip.

And the performance boost is huge for the 2 7950s no matter their clocks.

And if "reference is good" for being able to put waterblock on it, that means I need to create a loop, get rid of the H60, get pumps, radiators, waterblocks which is another ~£300+

Which is totally insane because the 7990 is only at ~£400 range.
And you cannot beat a 7990 with a 7970 reference no matter how good watercooling system you have.

1. Correction: Yes, you can almost. HIS 7950s are cheap and you're 10 pounds off. BUT, 7970 ref cards arent anywhere near as expensive as you're claiming. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-204-MS
2. R9 290x is 599 dollars launch price, you're not far off but that is definitely not the launch price.
3. Its good because it has a beefy PCB with better components, i dont care if you dont believe me because you probably believe asus and MSIs cards made out of dismantled jets and tanks. You're delusional and naive if you fall for this marketing. And all ref has unlocked voltage, no boost bios and i dont have to deal with GPU Tweak. And WHY do you have an H60? Its ****, even air coolers beat it, NH-D14, Phanteks 14PE, TRSASBE, Dark knight.
4. Dont embarrass yourself. 7990s are not 400.

And bottom line, my REF cooler on my REF card DEMOLISHED my matrix in benching, and i havent seen a matrix do better than my ref so far without LN2 or Dice, prove me wrong. If the cards are really taht good then beating a ref card shouldnt be a big deal.

BTW, all of my claims regarding price is made from Norwegian prices, idk how it is in England.

Sorry Panos for being aggressive, ive had little sleep. You are correct in some areas, but wrong in others. 7990s are NOT 400. Yea you can almost get 2 7950s for 350 (360-380 infact) but there are cheaper ref cards than 350... Go look at oc uk store.

this is really strange. if matrix cards are bad because they are not cherry picked, are you implying that the ref cards are? from what ive heard it's a lottery and frankly you can buy any card you like if you have the good silicon in there you've won and if you havent got it you've lost.

sure at launch prices the Matrix would be a pointless investment, but now, at current prices you are much better off buying the matrix over the ref cards.

the link you put up there was for an MSI card and not a ref card. the cheapest ref card ive found was £350 which is £90 more than the matrix and frankly if it's a lottery, i rather buy the cheaper ticket.

Im not looking to benchmark or overclock, i want a card to play games and so far the MAtrix been brilliant. played an hour of Blops 2 and the fans stayed at 10-15% and frames didnt drop below 150-160.

what if you had a bad experience with a ref card? would you now be telling people not to buy ref cards?

try looking at things from different prospectives

Ref cards are not cherry picked, but im saying that since the Matrix is advertised as the best card for ocing you would think it would clock higher on avarage, but it doesnt because yea... Its all luck and lottery. And why do you guys keep making ridiculous claims on ref card prices? Just look in the store... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-204-MS

exactly, so you buy the one that's cheapest and has the best cooler (if you are not planning on changing the cooler), right?

that MSI, is that what you mean by Ref card?

Yes, its a reference PCB card. And probably cheaper than a Matrix.

i thought this is a ref card:

i give up...

What?

Ref (reference) are cards based off of the AMD Reference design PCB that was initially released (The first 7970s) They are overbuilt and have VERY GOOD quality. Because they're reference design they will always have unlocked voltage and fit 90% of blocks. Its easier to deal with and you dont pay for gimmicks.
