hey guys thanks for taking your time to look at my post.
this is my first time even attempting to buy parts to build my own pc.
i just recently starting working and since i am getting some money i would like to buy parts to build my pc. it will be a gaming pc and i will not be buying the parts in 1 go, i will probably buy them every 2-3 weeks depending on how much the parts cost.

i would like you to spec me.
i will be spending up to £1000 on parts not including keyboard, mouse and monitor.
i want an i7 processor and i have been looking at the nvidia 660 ti graphics card but would like a second (or several) opinions from you guys to make sure that i am making the right choice.
the only part that i have done research on is the graphics card other than that i really dont know much about anything else.
i will buy my own choice of computer case so dont include that.
thats about it really and if you could take some time and spec me that would be great. thank you.
oh and in the near future i will be running 3 monitors so take that into account (i will buy more gfx cards in the future i will stick with 1 for now)

Hello

Sounds like a great project, here is a superb guide to read which explains all the parts you need and how you build. (I can't take credit for writing it by the way).
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18046396

So you are going to need the following:

1. Processor (CPU)
2. Motherboard
3. Memory (RAM)
4. Hard drive(s)
5. Graphics card(s)
6. Power supply (PSU)
7. Case (ok you have one of these - which one is it?)
8. CPU cooler
9. Case fans
10. CD/DVDRW drive(s)
11. Optional: Sound card (motherboards also have onboard sound)

A monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
OS (operating system) e.g. Windows 8
Speakers, headphones or both

Finally a few games - and add internet!

There you go started you off, some Pros will be along v.shortly, regards jpod

What will it be used for mainly? i know you said gaming but is it to be soley gaming? if so you can get an i5 and a better gpu ;)

can i ask why its a fine build? also would it be a bad idea to replace the gfx with a msi gtx 660ti power edition?
Its a good build because the components are all decent and well balanced. It wouldn't be a good idea to get a 660ti over the 7950 because its a fair bit slower.

Just as a quick suggestion but they do sell gaming bundles on the main page and even if you don't want to buy one of those you can always look and get a rough idea of what's 'current' and generally worth buying.

Just to add quickly that I myself bought a bundle about 2 years ago and fortunately it was one of the VERY expensive ones (due to money left over after buying the house) and as such I havn't had to touch it although ive watercooled it since (not necessary btw unless you really want the aesthetics).

The bundles are very well built and the support from the OCUK staff is great. That said feel free to dive in and get making your own!

Drop to an i5 there is no difference between that and the i7. An i7 is an i5 with hyper-threading, game devs said there would be hyper threading across every game currently yet we're still to see that 2-3 years later in anymore than 2-3 titles. So if you're only gaming, the i5 is a great way to save cash.

e; emjay makes a good point, however since I built my PC it has been such a HUGE learning curve, I learnt so much, met some great people and it's opened up career opportunities.

For a tenner more can get the Asus matrix platinum, over the MSI for the GPU

This weekend only, gives free delivery on the order also.
Will the triple slot cooler be an issue with xfire in the future? I myself am tempted by it but having spent £400 or so getting a new motherboard plus 4770k I'm holding off for now, will be looking at the r290x/gtx780 in the near future.

You really need to take the advice people are giving you, neither will be brilliant.

If it's purely for gaming stretch the budget to an i5.
