Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum vs GTX 680

I honestly dont know why you guys love the Matrixes so much that you get annoyed and angry when i berate/bash it for the POS card it is. Why do you even care? All im doing is try to steer people away from them.

Because they are OK, coming with a nice out of the box overclock that for many is just enough, and is more than many have managed to achieve with their 7970.

Also there are less people complaining about them (basically only you) than the MSI TFIII, even in this forum. (plenty of scary threads from many people).

Also because mere mortals, are happy with that bit little overclock and do not run self indulgent benchmarks 24/7 just to prove something. They want to play games on their 1080p monitor that supports 60hz. (mine 120 since is a NVision 3D compatible one).

Asus cards get very few complaints. I mean very few. Their cards are reliable. I've never had an Asus card fail on me. I've had Gigabyte and MSI cards fail. Of course some will fail, as all electrical things will. As for how high you can push it - some reference GPUs will end up with better clockers, that's pure chance. To read that as being superior to custom designed PCBs is nonsense.

Oh yea you're right. I am the best 7970 single GPU bencher (Or close to) In most bench threads on here.

I wonder why no Matrixes have done it better, they should assuming they are advertised as the highest end 7970 on the market. So beating me should be no problem.

Unless ofcourse, all the advertising are either BS or just bad gimmicks.

Panos;25021958]According to you on the Official 3DMark 'Fire Strike' Leaderboard post you run under water.

3930k @ 5.1GHz.
7970 @ 1340/1850.

Cooled by a water loop.

I am on water dummies. Clocks vary with benchmarks and drivers. FS is hard to do at 1380+ Ill link you my 3d11. Though, i do have a 1370 run on it.

No its on air doing 1385/1880 at 1.384v.

I can't work out if you're mentally ill, or just a douchebag.

I don't think I care either way tbh. Later.

So he says he's on air and then says hes on water blah blah blah jesus christ leave us idiots alone. we fall for marketing ******** blah blah. you are too wise to that ****, good for you.

Its not the fact that mine broke. And its only the 79xx DC2 and Matrixes im talking about, their refs are as good as anyone elses.

8Pack would disagree.
As do I, having played with a Matrix and getting it close to 1300 with it's stock cooler, was a damn good card and that was when they were £500, they are now exactly half that.

Same as my ref then, my ref did 1280-1300 depending on the benchmark on ref cooling (I had 15-20c ambients though).

All im saying; IS that the extra features it has (doubt they're real though) Wont help if the chip is crap. They should atleast cherry pick the card. And even THEN it doesnt matter until you're pushing over 1600 which ref cards can handle on LN2.

Anyone doing 1600+ with their matrixes? Raise their hands. Until you do, its wasted money to get a Matrix over any other 7970. THIS IS MY POINT.

To anyone who's on the fence about this card, I would really recommendit. i have played bio shock inf, saints row 4, blops2 and bf3 and it doesnt even warm up.

i played BF3 on ultra settings for an hour straight and the fans stayed below 20% (though my case does a good job of keeping the inside cool) and frames never dropped below 100

at £250 delivered with 3 free games, it's a steal

thank you Overclockers for providing a great service. i bought parts for 2 gaming pcs, once in 2008 and once last year and now i have managed to make a good decision with the help of people on this forum. all i can say is thank you!

1. Yea any card can do that, and its irrelevant as long as it doesnt overheat.

2. Again, irrelevant, there are many other quiet cards. Yours isnt the only one.

3. Yea its nice.

4. NP.
