I dont feel any tingle with the newe consoles at all. The 360 I liked but I feel PC will take over with small gaming boxes running steamOS or all the Android gaming. Console gaming just seems to of died out in excitement and we are getting all this media rubbish, I dont want to spend money on something a rasoberry does I want core gaming.

Any hype? I just aint feeling it.

Sadly consoles are here to stay just because of their small entry costs. With pc gaming you have to double or triple the cost and have some level of know how too so I very much doubt it for now at least any way.

Price point and from a social perspective consoles are here to stay.
Gaming is born from a early age and parents see a console as a better cheaper and 'normal' thing to play games. Were as a 13year old sitting on a 700quid gaming machine in his/her room that's connected to all of the horror stories from the net isn't a nice idea for them.

I just priced up a capable gaming machine (including a 24" monitor) for £600.

Cheapest ps4 I can find is £350, so not even double.

If you go like-for-like and use an existing tv as a monitor, it brings the pc price down to £480, only a smidgen more than an Xbone.

The price differential just aint what it used to be.

Consoles will stay which I don't have a problem with as the screaming kids will stick to COD on a console rather then on a pc.

It's getting that way. My 2p, even if I were't a gamer, I'd want a fast PC and nice big screen, so I'd have a fast CPU, lots of RAM and an SSD. And a lovely keyboard and mouse. Nice headphones for music/video, soundcard. Comfy desk and chair... Just add a GPU and you have a gaming PC.

For me, a console is a big "extra" cost :p

The problem with this is that a PC will need double the specs of a console most of the time in order to surpass it in graphics and performance. Developers are extremely talented these days with making the ancient current gen consoles do some amazing things (GTA V being a prime example). Whereas most developers can't get games to work properly on £1,000+ machines with noticeable graphical leaps or smooth framerate. Some can of course, but the issue with owning a PC identical to the consoles in power is that you won't be able to do what the console can.

It was a 3.5Ghz machine + 7950 + 8GB ram, pretty sure it could happily trade blows with consoles.

Sure, some ports run poorly no matter what, but at the same time there are other things that you can do with a pc that you cant with a console.

 really!? Man I was expecting like a 5850 and a entry level 3ghz pentium or something for that price, either prices have plummeted or you're a beast at selecting components. :p

A few of my mates haven't decided which console they're getting next gen, I'll pass this on. ;)

Obviously factor in my free shipping, but close enough :p

In answer to the original point I think consoles are here to stay for now, and lots of people are pretty excited about the new ones. They probably have more to fear from tablets than PCs.

With regards to the price differences being discussed though. The thing is that pretty much everyone has a PC (or MAC) of some type. Now okay if you want to be running recent games with high settings you need to invest in a decent gaming PC, but these days your average PC can do a fairly decent job of running most games, and are certainly fine for your more casual games that are gaining popularity.

Also its not necessarily a case of £350 for a console or £600 for a PC, it could be a case of, I'm spending £400 on a PC anyway so do I spend a few hundred extra for a gaming PC.
