Is this HD7850 quiet? (Today only special)

Hi all,

The MSI HD 7850 OC is on special today (link).

Does anyone know if it's relatively quiet, and if that cooler will be able to let me overclock it to 1050-1100MHz? Should I rather go for this dual-fan Sapphire model instead?

Thanks!

It is not quiet in my opinion, I wish I went for one with better cooler.

Thanks for the quick reply markoboyo11. I'm really struggling to make a decision!

Part of me thinks I should perphaps go for a 7950 since I have a 2560x1440 monitor. However, I do not intend to play the latest and greatest games at max settings. I'm looking to start with older games like Half-Life 2 and Starcraft 2, and perhaps Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3.

no bother, if it was me I would go for the 7950, for 185 with better cooler and more future proof.
Expecially at you're rez, 7850 is still a great card but I think for a extra few pounds the 7950 is worth it.

Thanks :) Which 7950 would you recommend? I see there are a few for £185.

The HIS looks pretty good.

In a true Top Gear "advice" style.

As advice to you, this one to have peace of mind. Absolutely great card

However if noise is paramount a 7950 PCS+ cannot be beaten, but you might have to combat a lazy RMA department if happens to return it. (at least not bad one like the XFX one).

Thanks Panos. Unfortunately the Asus one won't fit because it's a triple-slot card.

My PC/server isn't actually that good, so I wonder if it will bottleneck a 7950 quite badly? I'm pasting the specs below from my other thread:

Supermicro X8SIL-F motherboard
Intel Xeon X3450 CPU (i5-750 equivalent?)
16GB RAM
ATI HD6450 gfx
2 x SATA cards
Crucial M4 256GB SSD
14 x 2 TB drives
Corsair HX520 PSU

The motherboard only has an 8x slot (physical 8x), so half of my HD6450 actually hangs out the back of the PCI-E slot.
