Ever walk out of a restaurant?

I walked out of Pizza Hut many years ago for being ignored by the waiters! I was stopped by the manager on the way out who, I think, thought I hadn't paid so I made a rather loud fuss!

Andi.

Only walked out of a restaurant once. Me and 3 friends walked into a Carvery, took 10 minutes to get seated, the queue for the carvery itself was massive and they were taking ages to bring the meat out. Instead of queuing we just left our drinks on the table and left, it was crap.

How miserable do you have to be NOT to tip when someone has basically been your personal slave for a couple of hours?

Don't agree with the personal slave description, however happy to tip when the service and/or food has been good, begrudgingly so when the tip is forced upon me...

No I'm not up my own arse enough for that, I'd rather just give criticism, pay and never return.

This. I would never even dream of sending a plate back like some people do because i didnt like it, or it was overcooked.

If you were the employee in question and saw someone who looked older than she is but actually turned out to be 18 or 20, would you be ready to risk your job (And the establishment's licence) or just follow the rules and instructions you have been given?

There's these "Challenge 25" and "Challenge 30" for a reason, so people don't get offended when they get id'd based on looking young.

Why people get offended when asked for ID I will never know.

Already said I was being mega stroppy :-P I didn't say it was right. I was annoyed because it was an Irish bar that are notorious for being slack (If you've dated an Irish chick for several years and been to Ireland you'll know what I mean), and got carded. I'm not complaining about it, just saying I was stroppy. Mainly got a head on because we'd traveled all the way into philly on a night out and we were on holiday and it was our one and only night out. I got much more merry in the sex shop across the street lol.

me and the missus went for a meal at SO bar in Ripon always had a nice time in the Harrogate So bar and after the order had been taken we were still there after 40min with no meal, told the poor lass servicing us we were leaving as it was taking to long she apologised and told us the drinks were on the house no explanation as to why but its getting a bad rep over time from other people as well. just felt sorry to waitress as it wasnt her fault the kitchen was useless

I can understand not saying anything if you just don't like it because that's purely down to personal preference, but why wouldn't you say something if it came out under/overcooked that's just shoddy service.

I don't have any problem tipping whatsoever. I do have a problem with being told how much to tip, especially in the UK. When I'm in the US it's obviously different as service staff are paid hardly anything and rely on their tips to make a living. The level of service is better there and 20% is typical for excellent service. So for some place in the UK to add a 20% service charge for average service was a total ****take.

I said overcooked, not under :p. I would rather eat a chewy steak than to send it back and have to wait while they cook me another one. I dont mind asking them to put it in the oven for 5 more mins.

A couple of times before being served as we didn't like the look of what was on offer.

If the service is slow, I just stand up walk over to the lazy waiters and ask politely for service.

Really?!

I've sent wine back, food back if it wasn't up to par.

You're paying for something it should be as expected!

That's one thing I love and admire but also find irritating about "Britishness" - too polite and stiff upper lip sometimes - yet sometimes you'll stand up to things in the most strangest of situations!

Although I'm quick to praise, I'm also quick to condemn and let people know about my dissatisfaction.

Never walked out without paying, although i did get given the wrong bill recently with friends. I Even asked her to double check and she put the amount into the card machine for me so i gladly paid that instead as it was around £50 less.

Got asked to leave a pizza hut when i was younger. We'd eaten the mains and stayed for about 30 mins as it was raining heavily outside so we were having the free pepsi while a couple of my friends dithered over pudding choices. The reason was that they needed the tables, however there was only 3-4 of about 20 tables being used. Told my mum when i got home and she rang them up to complain and we got given a free meal there to say sorry. Must have only been 15/16 so a free pizza hut meal was a massive deal!

And if I'm not wrong, when you pay the gratuity charge they include on the bill, the money goes through the company anyway, and as result I'm pretty damn sure that the member of staff who served you never sees a penny of it. I'd much rather hand a tip to the member of staff myself to ensure they get it. I'd also mention to the manager how impressed I was with that person as well on the way out.

That's even stranger! If you're willing to complain about 1 it seems strange not to complain about the other :p

Why do people think you have to have your 'head up your arse' to return poor quality/undercooked/overcooked food?

If you're paying for something, it better be up to par!

I've ordered a drink, looked at the menu, realised It's really expensive and then left before.

The joys of being poor!

I really do not understand tipping waiting staff. They carry your food to your table, why do people tip for that ? Or am I just being a tight old git.

I tip because I like to reward good service.

Do you tip elsewhere ? It just seems strange to me that we are meant to tip the person who carries our food to our table but not other professions. The chap fitting my tyres took extra care not to damage my wheels but never expected a tip for giving that little extra.

:)
