Did you agree with the Strike today?

Just like that, its what NORMAL people do. Teachers are not normal people?

And what about the other point I made?

What about protesting it on a Saturday instead? Why do they have to do it in a weekday? Go on, be honest here, because everyone else knows the answer but I just want to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Many teachers have specific qualifications. If you don't get this then I give up :p

As for the saturday...That would not carry any weight.

Don't get me wrong, I support the right to protest. Do it all day if you like but don't hold the very people you went into the profession to educate as ransom. Yes, that's what it is, using children as ransom to get what you want.

If that is not a terrible example of a baby throwing toys out of the pram, I don't know what is.

Do the protest on a Saturday, Sunday, every Bank Holiday, entire summer holiday for 6 weeks if you want to. I support it all day long.

Using children as leverage, it's disgusting if you want the truth.

You don't like your job.

Do you:-

A - Stand outside your employers with colourful banners chanting in T-shirts made the week before

B - Look for a job with better working conditions/pay/benefits

Normal people would do B.

The majority of teachers love their jobs. But they are increasing being stifled to teach.

You haven't a clue :p

I'll give you 2 words.

Private School.

You don't see them protesting do you? Wait, because they found a job that gives them what they want !

I say again, private school. Find another job that teach, go abroad and teach, get more educated, teach at university.

Then do it on a weekend. Don't turn this round into a "joke", its not funny.

Depends on your job... if you're in a position to individually negotiate for your pay then you do the above.... though its not so common to give up an entire profession/industry rather you find a different employer for your profession/industry... an accountant, solicitor etc.. is more likely to switch to another firm if unhappy with pay and conditions not find a completely different profession entirely

Teachers generally don't get to do that, the main employer of teachers is the state... with a smaller bunch of private schools. We'd be a bit screwed in years to come if significant numbers of them gave up the profession entirely.

Teachers, useless people... Dont want to work? Kick all of them out and employ some cheap labor from other 3rd world countries, pay them minimal wage... So what if they dont speak English?

Open private schools which charge 100k a year, that way the teachers would be paid well so its win win situation.

You cant afford private school? Well not our problem is it, start employment early once you are out of the womb, no excuses.

Since this will produce lots of morons, just send them over to Australia cause we dont want that kind here.

We going to need someone to clean our houses and bring tea, so we could just fly them in and then send them back once working day has finished, cause I dont want to see none of that 3rd world country people across my street.

Problem Solved.

Argh! I am so fed up of hearing this! The fine comes from the GOVERNMENT NOT THE SCHOOL! The school is just the middle man!

This article was in 2012 - and the rule has now come into effect:

Schools DON'T HAVE A CHOICE any more!

That's not really accurate, schools do have a choice, in fact when asked the head teacher of my daughters primary school said that the school had never fined a parent and didn't intend start now. Effectively ignoring the new law.

i could take you to a few clubs and educate you if you like? :p

I think this month's Club lash is uniform themed, get your school girl skirt out :p:D

I think I would rather stay 'boring' like Hurfdurf describes me thanks for the offer though. (I was only joking btw where I worked was straight out of a Carry On film most of the time)

Private school? This is really not thinking and looking out for the kids like you mention :p

The majority don't want to move as they love their jobs. They just don't want to be screwed over by the Joke that is the government.

Weekends are not really good for teachers.

That's not really an appropriate use of "normal" because it's implying only those who are "abnormal", which is usually used as a synonym for "not right" wouldn't choose to do that.

I understand that, hence I said protest on a weekend.

And there are other ways to get what you want across, write to your MP, get public support, get it written into the legislation to ring fence the education funding.

The strike has made me lose the support. The exact opposite I bet of what they want it to do, which is to show the public how badly teachers are treated and public support helps their cause.

The strike does the exact opposite.

I do love the way people who tend to have quite broadly applicable qualifications sweepingly say to people who have quite specific qualifications to just move on and get another job. If only it were that simple. It also would completely to fail to address most of the concerns.

If it did happen on a wide scale basis it would rapidly lead to a change in policy though. Large enough percentage of teachers handed in their notice policy would shift pdq.

This attitude doesn't suit you.

Using children as leverage, it's disgusting if you want the truth.

So would it be okay if they used adults as leverage?

Would you say I was 'bad' because I refused to treat patients, in a children's hospital, until conditions were improved? I mean I used a child's health as leverage?

Weekends are not really good for teachers.

Why? Because they have their own kids that they need to take care off....

wait...that sounds familiar.

That is what happened when the Canadian nurses went on strike. The government changed the law to banned them from striking before they could. They then resigned en masse. From their entry of their applications to the government backing down lasted about 16 minutes if I remember correctly.
