I've got a HIS ICEQ HD7950 which overclocks like a mad man. All games run pretty great but i've noticed a recent price drop in the 7950, is it worth picking up another now? I hear xfire isn't that good :(

Using i5 2500k @ 4.7ghz and 12GB ram.

Xfire was not good in the past but its not bad now, pretty good apparently.

Sorry to high jack the thread, but how bad would it be to xfire the cards when second PCI slot is only 4x?

What I've been told is that although the loss in performance isn't that much, you still might see a reduction of anything between 5 - 15%.

So it's not too bad I guest as the price of the 7950 are pretty cheap at the moment

I tested this a while back. I found it to be between 1-10%, with 10% being a rare and worst case scenario. What you will find is the gpu in the x4 slot never works at full capacity. Instead it sits at 85-95%.

Am thinking of doing the same as you and can say with almost certainty you will need a new PSU 750w minimum. It's the same reason why I haven't flat out purchased another, my 600w PSU will probably fall over!

with the 7950's so low in price at the mo, if i had one i would get another without a doubt, when i bought my first 7970 i paid more than what you can get 7950 xfire now
