BF4 Crossfire 7850 or new card?

A single 7950 would do you fine. Overclock it, sell the free games. You'd only get a small performance increase with the two 7850s. A 7950 is more future proof for sure.

I Just did a quick TDM on a full 48 player server on Ultra and got the results above with my Xfire 7850s.

CPU @ 4.6
GPU Core Clock @ 1000
GPU Mem Clock @ 1300

One question. I've seen that AMD will be bundling bf4 with their new lineup in October. I will definately want the game release day but have their previous bundles included not yet released games but just provide a code for when its released?

If so I may wait as EA are ripping customers with BF4 so the chance to save on the game is tempting but only if it would be available for release.

Well this thread came in handy! Was going to ask the same questions but thought I'd do a search first! PSU was a main concern of mine but I have exactly the same 7850 and PSU as the OP!

Which way did you go in the end?

I should have MM access this time next week so will be watching for 7850s like a hawk :D

Just saw this thread pop back up!

I went for a HIS 7950 Boost as it was £190 and potentially a lot less problems than 2 cards. It works great at 1100 core (memory stock) and BF3 flies with 2xAA (4xAA too but I saw it drop into the 40's one time so lowered it lol).

However, I am now seriously considering getting a second 7950 based on the BF4 beta! I will wait until closer to the full games release as will need to fund a new PSU as well.

You can't go wrong going with the 7950 as generally just a lot less problems, however if BF4 is on your list to play. Definately 7950 with the potential to get another later.

I have a feeling whereas the 7850 was a decent mid range card for BF3 its towards the lower end with BF4 and for the price of the 7950's and guranteed performance I think its the better choice than gambling on a second 7850 which may not cut it for BF4 anyway.

You should also get £80-90 for your 7850 so theoretically if you do then the 7950 actually saves you money!

Hope this helps.

Hmm. What you're telling me sounds very sensible. But I think I have a crossfire itch that needs scratching :D

Also money is a big factor for me, I'm hoping to pick up a second hand 7850 pretty cheap and don't really want the hassle of selling an old card and games etc.

Hmmmm.

How well does ur current 7850 clock? People recommended the 7850 when I bought mine as you could match the 7950 if it clocked well but if you get a second card that doesnt clock as well (not forgetting 2 cards is much more heat so may have to lower your current card) your crossfired 7850's have the potential of not matching one well clocked 7950!

7850s still sell well on MM so you could always sell that first and use your onboard gfx for a couple of days?

Pretty well, had it running 1200/1400 mostly, have taken it down a tad recently. Would run lower clocks with two though.

Gah, more thinking to do i think! :D

No thinking needed, its clear cut :p

Didn't want to have to throw this in....and I may be lynched and raped by some users on here BUT if your tight on money its a bit silly to go for another 2GB card don't ya think. 3GB is showing its usefulness quite a bit and it will work 100% outta the box ;)

I'll leave it there mate but as you said we were in exactly the same position and the path I chose has only been cemented since I got my 7950.

Good luck!

It's the 3GB bit that's my sticking point, otherwise I'd just crossfire and be done with it I expect. Hmm. 7950 crossfire . . . :D
