Hey guys,
Tried asking on an existing thread instead of creating a new one. But not received any replies. Hopefully I can get a little more assistance here :)

I too am looking for upgrade possibility to be able to completely MAX out games mainly Arma 2&3, BF4 and may re-install FSX. I'd like to be able to get decent frames so I can use Fraps.
Arma 2 for instance on my clan multiplayer server with 60+ players frames are between 24-40 (Not recording) depending on how much it has to render.

I have been looking at the following

Also considered adding another 240GB SSD

What do you guys think?

I think for games like Arma you will be waiting a long time until you can get spanking performance.
Arma (especially3) is pretty poorly optimised currently so throw as much as you like at it, the game won't use it but it won't hurt to have the performance there when you need it.

The main difference in spec is the CPU, have you thought about an i7 2700K and clocking it up?

Pick up a second hand 2600K/2700k clock it to 4.5+, Add another GPU if you can.

Will be cheaper than the Bundle and a lot more effective gaming wise (BF4 anyway).

Thanks Steve, I know Arma are very demanding on hardware and optimization hasn't been the best, a clan member bought a similar spec'd bundle as above and his FPS rocketed up in A2.

A 2700k you say? couldn't see one on here, are they older than the 4770k? Also what makes that a better CPU than the new chipset? my 2500k is currently clocked at 4.4 by the way. I also thought about the screen above as I'd like to move into 3D and the extra Hz are meant to smooth out gameplay.

You should be able to pickup a second hand 2600k for about £120-150, This will give you within ~10% of the performance of the 4770k (clock for clock) for about 1/4 the price of upgrading to that above bundle.

With the spare funds I'd add a 2nd 680, I think theyre new for about £250 now?

Depends on the game really mate, BF3 scales really well, I expect BF4 will too.

Generally speaking about 75-90% more grunt with 2 GPUS than 1 ime.

Changing your CPU from 2500k to 2600/2700k will give you HT which will boost MIN FPS quite substantially (bf3/4 again). not many other games support more than 2/4 cores.

If you do go SLI, Your current 2500k will be a bit of a bottleneck to the 2 GPU's ( My 2500k bottlenecked 2 670's) I would have got a 2nd hand 2600k but my Mobo broke so just decided to change platforms then, Wasnt no need though really as a 2600k is only about 10% behind a 4770k gaming wise.

I agree with you..

Youll certainly benefit from more GPU power in ARMA and BF*

FSX is a different beast, its more CPU heavy that GPU heavy, so a 2600k/2700k is needed.

You can also spend some money watercooling them and overclocking them higher.. :D More performance. :D

Answered.
The 2600/2700's are older CPU's but would direct swap with your 2500 meaning you don't have to buy new motherboard and RAM etc. As stated the performance difference is fairly low between the older and newer multithreaded CPU's.

Arma is a royal PITA, my system gets 70fps on some servers and 30 on others , people on Arma forums tried telling me it was my hardware that was faulty (idiots).

26or2700 with an SLI will keep you rocking in the upper half for a while to come.

Is my mobo a good platform though, would I benefit with a higher end mobo? Is there a risk of heating issues with this board?

Nice video on youtube on wasteland Steve lol I've seen you have 3770k, how does that compare to a 26/27k?

It is a good platform?

What do you mean by not a lot of space?

There is a user i helped recently who used the same motherboard with a 2500k and two 7970's watercooled.. It looks awesome! :)

I don't see any risk of heat issues.

Ah thanks Doom, I just meant with the 680's being beefy cards and the two PCI lanes might of been a bit close. Where as higher end boards seem to have more spaced out PCI slots
Or is that a misconception on my part?

I've also just thought, I assume there is a need for a higher powered PSU?

Ah ok thanks again Doom, mine is the first one you linked indeed, infact I think I picked that board as in SLI it splits the speed 8/8 and oh fair enough I just remember how the 480's needed 1000W+ in SLI haha

Its sure does, its a great board for SLI/Xfire.

Yeah the 480's were power hungry..

I wouldn't be suprised if you could run 3 x 680's off that power supply.. :D

I think the 3770K has only a marginal advantage clock for clock than the 2700K however the 2700's clock higher due to thermal properties so it's much of a much ness.

Well guys I am hugely grateful for all the insight you have given and minimized my shopping list a large margin to 3 items :D

For piece of mind do you think it'd be best to get a new chipset to ensure longevity.
So that brings it to
The Asus 144hz Monitor,
2700k
An extra SSD for my simulation games
