New driver insurance woes

So I recently passed my test and I'm looking to buy a car. The only problem I'm facing right now though are ridiculous prices for insurance. I'm struggling to get a quote that's under £3k.

I've tried a few different cars but they all seem to bounce back with the same figures. I'm 26. Could it be my postcode is dodgy or something? Or is this just the expected price for a new driver to pay these days? :(

Manchester Postcodes should be alright. As for prices, try adding few elder people as second/third driver.

I'm assuming you're going for a small hatchback? Try insurance qoutes on 2.0l or higher engine size or around about them engine sizes.. You'll be suprised on the qoutes that you get.

If i try to insure my self using a Manchester post code i save about £200 a year, and im not far off from Manchester. Just down the road for me ;)

At 26 years old, £3k is pretty high but then I guess most of Manchester postal code areas are also dodgy.

Some tricks for lower costs are adding your mum / dad / wife / gf as named drivers.

What type of car are you getting quotes on, and what is its value?

Yeah 'Refer' normally means it differs between insurers and some won't even cover it. Mine's an F and for some odd reason it's not as bad as expected.

Have you tried less common cars driven by new drivers? Sometimes you'll find that a 1.4/1.6 variant of a not so popular car with young people is cheaper than something with a smaller engine as more of them have been crashed by people in your area/age group.

It's all very well and good looking at that list, but I was chatting to an insurance broker who said that most companies have their own list of postcode areas, there's no one list.

Hmm, just got a quote for £1900 with a 1.2 Seat Ibiza. Do they just pick a figure out of thin air or what, this is doing my head in.

there is youre problem im afraid.... :(

When i moved from newton heath ( M40 ) to macclesfield ( SK11 ) my insurance more than halved.

Always add other drivers to your policy it does help a lot.

Try an eco car like the Kia ceed 1.4 eco dynamic model

I cant believe my postocde (NE16) is an E
It's like where old people go to die, dead as a doornail lol

OP
Add parents, the missus mother dropped mine a canny chunk.

I currently have her, my dad and my brother all added as additionals.
Also who's the quotes from?
I always found confused.com gave me best results but a friend recently got his best offer from tesco over the phone after adding a clubcard.

Mine's the same (EH10). Lots of posh blind grannies scratching each other's Audis while trying to park I think. My car picked up scrapes on all four corners within 3 months of getting it.
