Hey I have about 450-500 to spend on a graphics card or 2 if that would turn out better. This is for a build and not to upgrade my old computer.

I am thinking about going with two of these:

Anything better you can suggest, I know the new amd cards will be out soonish, I will wait and also see them, but if they aren't very good for the money I'd go for older ones.

On the Nvidia side, £450 would get you a pair of GTX 670's / 680's or £450+ will get you a GTX 780, awesome performance @ relativity low power use in comparison to competition. Physx, Nvidia optimized in a load of existing and upcoming games. Arguably better drivers, in terms of frame pacing etc.

On the AMD side £450 could get you a pair of 7950's / 7970's or a 7990. Excellent performance, fairly power hungry and put out a fair amount of heat. Optimsed for games like Battlefield, will use upcoming Mantle. Dual GPU's can have frame pacing issues, althought these are being resolved with updates.

What does the rest of your build look like?

At this point a lot depends on what games you play now and what you may play a lot of (e.g. BF4).

The answer may range from:

2 x 7950s (which leaves you spare cash for better mobo/cpu) and almost the same performance as 2 x 7970s

2 x 7970s - a bit better than the above depending on the make/model of card

1 x 7990 - less good value but single card

1 x 290x if you like the look of the newer cards and wouldn't mind lower performance than the above but with possibility of adding another later.

Might be able to get 3 7950's for £500-ish? Well close enough anyway. Trifire? Also gives you 3 sets of AMD Gold tickets - use one and sell the other two for £20 each maybe?

AMD choices definitely. Nvidia - total waste of money at the moment.

Lol wut?

670's and 680's are excellent prices atm. GTX 780 is also a monster of a GPU, at £450+ it is a lot of performance for the money, remember the 7970 was £450 for a little while as well. The 780 is slowly creeping down in price.

Those Asus GPU's you link OP are fantastic but be aware, they take up 3 slots, so room on your mobo must be considered or you will have 2 very hot cards. CF and SLI are always a great option and seem to run problem free for the majority of people. The 7990 is a good card and a lot of card for the money, so worth considering (still a dual card).

The 780 is fantastic and the OC cards are faster than stock Titans, so if you wanted the best as of now, that is where you should be looking but in seriousness, hold out till AMD launch their new cards and see what happens then. Pricing for the R9 290X is hinting at roughly 780 prices and a tad more but again, wait for the official release IMO :)

+1

For many happy owners who paid over £400 for a 680, they would also agree that the prices now are great.

You can get a pair of MSI or Gigabyte HD7970 GE cards for around £420 if you shop around. You are probably looking at closer to £500 for a pair of GTX680 cards.

Then there is the GTX780 and the soon to be released R9 290 and R9 290X cards.

There are also rumours of another GK110 SKU slotting below the GTX780.

I think you need to consider whether you want a single or dual card setup first. Both have their pros and cons.

One R9 290X

I am pretty sure they will undercut the GTX 780 even if it's only a tenner less.

It means you will be very future proofed and the cards will still be around next year if you want to add a second.
