Is a 7970 overkill for 1680x1050?

Just about to pull the trigger on an Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP but just want to see what people think about running it in my current rig (see sig) bearing in mind my monitor is a 22" 1680x1050. I wont be replacing my monitor or the rest of my system for at least another 18 months either so this will pretty much be it for me.

Thanks

Will still need that power for a couple of games, certainly Crysis 3 currently and Sleeping dogs plus Battlefield 4 would work that card hard at that rez.

Cool, i'll get it ordered :)

One other thing though - having been running an Nvidia card for a couple of years is it in any way necessary to do a full Windows format and reinstall to avoid any driver issues?

Thanks

Edit- Use Driver fution to remove NV drivers. ^^^^

No not at all, nothing wrong with 250 FPS in BF3 :p

7970 is a good choice if you won't upgrade for 18 months. Many very recent games will need one at ultra settings at your res.

You can have nvidia and AMD drivers both on the system at the same time, just do a standard uninstallation if you want. No need to reinstall Windows at all.

It wouldn't hurt to do a full reinstall of Windows to completely avoid driver related problems, but its not always needed. Just completely uninstall the nvidia drivers and install the latest and ones after a restart.

I caused a whole load of trouble for myself recently using driver sweeper, eventually needing a whole new windows install... So yeah be careful using driver sweeper or similar driver 'cleaners'.

Thanks guys.

One last thing (I hope) - my PSU is a Lepa 750W which i'm hoping will be powerful enough and also have the required connections. The card is a dual 8pin affair as far i can tell. I've included a picture of what I hope is the right cable that as two 6+2pin connectors.

Does that all look and sound ok?

Thanks again
