migraines and rain

I had migraines as a kid, grew out of them as a teenager but they came back mid twenties MUCH worse than I had them as a kid, frequency rather than pain. As a kid I would wake up in the middle of the night with exceptionally bad migraines but not particularly often. I'd often get them all through summer on hotter days, and as with others here during certain wet weather.

ARound 25-26 I started getting them really bad out of blue, can range in anything from one in maybe three weeks or 4-5 in a single week. I had one a few months ago for maybe three days, woke up with one in the morning, went to sleep with it, kept going for so long though thankfully it wasn't the most intense migraine. Other times I can barely move for pain.

Codeine is really the only thing to touch the pain, with the most intense ones it will usually be a third or fourth dose that finally sees the pain go away for good(as in 8-12 hours later not in the same go ;) ).

I can't sleep through them, I get a pounding throbbing head often and when I lie down I can just feel my head throb on the pillow, can't fall asleep, can't focus on anything but the pain. Movement makes it worse so I'll generally eat something very simple, take a couple codeine, get a big bottle of water and sit infront of the computer with brightness turned down and try to distract myself watching tv or something along those lines.

I get weather related ones but its fairly specific weather (probably pressure related) usually when you get those humid days with misty clingy type rain almost always = migraine.

Ibuprofen. Quit whinging :D
Aspirin really does take the edge off.

Doesn't do anything for the actual migraine for me (and same for most people) I still get the visual auras followed by the repeated knife to the head feeling (for want of a better way to explain it) however they do help a bit with the aftermaths (I usually feel like I've got a hangover for 24 hours or so after where painkiller do help).

I used to get them as a teenager but grew out of them.

I remember the only thing that worked was sleeping in a darkened room. Always woke up fine.

Yeah same for me - if I can get to sleep in a darkened room soon after the onset then the bad bit is all over in an hour or 2 and then just recovering - if I don't though it can go on for 4+ hours which is no fun :( likewise it was worse when I was a teenager but not completely out grown them.

Ouch I get that but I can manage to sleep through it so if I get an hours nap or so the worst is over, really wouldn't want to be unable to sleep through it that would suck a LOT. Can't watch TV or anything as I get visual auras with them that last a good bit into the head throbbing bit.

I can tell when it's gonna rain. Even if I was in a room with no windows to look at the sky before you all make comments about clouds etc.

Doctors said I was detecting the pressure change. It's just a feeling I become aware of. I can then say when it's not gonna rain as well, even if it looks like it might.

Weirdo I know :D

Yeah I have a hangover/bruised head feel usually for a good half a day, sometimes much longer. With the 3 day long one I had it wasn't the most severe but even after the actual migraine type pain was gone my head felt like I'd been in the boxing ring for a good couple days afterwards. I couldn't focus or do anything for 3 days and felt so drained/tired/achey head for a couple days I basically did nothing for an entire week. Codeine can also add to the hangover feel, that is the only time I've taken 4 lots of codeine in one day and did it three days in a row.

I think the head throbbing thing, it's just something with my head I think, I quite often have the head throbbing feel without any headache. It can stop me sleeping when I don't have a headache, on occassion I'll go to bed and just be completely unable to sleep due to it. When I have a migraine though it's usually stronger, actually painful rather than just a feeling and I don't get even close to dropping off. The codeine + sitting as still as a statue works best for me :p Comedies aren't good for a distraction as laughing can ruddy hurt. :(
