What is the best way of trading on Gumtree it is not possible to meet the seller and pay cash?

He has an online receipt for the item. Can something be setup on paypal where I know tge item will be posted ir is just a case of paying first and awaiting the postage tracking number?

Or what about paying when a postage teacking number has been sent

I have used Gumtree a few times but always met the seller (never had problems)

I'd only ever use it if I could meet the seller face to face, or you are asking for problems mate. I've also not had any issues with gumtree so far in regards to face to face transactions for numerous products.

OK let's not go extreme :p

Have had no problem with inviting people into my house to view stuff.

Safety first. The amount of idiots that think they're clever on gumtree amazes me. I've had some right big men come view things for sale. It's generally the brap brap'ers and their 10 mates trying to sell something. If alone it can be intimidating.

I've got a bit of a problem.
I sold a guitar amp a month ago and the daughter was in when the bloke came and he took it away.
Being old I don't live on my phone so it was 11:30pm when I went to bed and noticed a string of texts where each one was getting angrier saying I must have known about a noise problem and that's why I won't respond.
I quickly apologised and said 'I don't do texts because I'd rather hear a persons voice and that his money was still here if he was unsatisfied.
That was a month ago.
He was taking it to a technician but said the guy was taking his time looking at it.
Do you think a month is too long for someone to hang on to something without it now being theirs?
I have £150 I want to spend.

Definitely too long. 7 days maximum to be reasonable but no where near this long. If he calls now and says it's broke tell him tough, he took too long.

I'd say a month is too long to want to return it.
It depends if the aggro is worth it for you dimple, if they're going to acost you every chance they get, or threaten, then just be down with it and trade back.

If they seem reasonable but a little peeved, explain to them the situation, and that if they were dissatisfied, they should have returned it earlier.

Good luck.

Ive sold plenty of phones on gumtree and always meet them in person, a few times ive had them come round my place to have a look at the phone im selling.

Never ever had any problems selling to anyone and neither have i had any of these people give me hassle etc.

The thing is I must have sounded so accommodating "Yeah, no problem, take your time" etc but a month is pushing it.

He bought it on 15/9 and complained that night.
His last message was on 24/9 saying he would have an answer on Friday 27/9.

I've just texted him.

I had problems doing this same way dude, went face to face for a 7870 gpu got home thing did not work worse part was his a member of this forum as well.(no names)

took 3 months to get it replaced as the seller blocked my phone number and emails.

if your buying get them to drop it off at your house so you can test the item never meet even if shown it works on their side.

It's not worth the scam.

Please always pay cash in Hand, and don't ever meet up at a 'location.' Sellers house or no sale. Simple as that.

Sellers house? I would rather meet at a public location like a train station than some randoms house

Dont want to end up in a transexuals basement covered in marmite and chained to a wagon wheel!
