What's the best single card graphics card for 400-500? I was looking at the 7990, any other suggestions?

I would go for a dual card but I heard there can be issue with them.

A 7990 is a dual gpu card.

AMD is about to release a refresh of cards and a new top-end which may influence prices.

I meant like crossfire or SLI, so two different GPUs, not dual sorry. Also yeah I will be waiting until then, but wanted to know the best one for the price at the moment.

7990 is the best single card in your price range and there are not as many issues as you think just the normal ones when it some to cf but it is not as bad as you would believe.

Depends on clocks, a 7990 is just two 7970's but last time I checked, internal crossfire wasn't as good as normal crossfire for frame rates.

So if I went crossfire, how would 2 7970s (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-273-AS) compare to a single 7990?

the 2 7970 would be a little bit faster due to the higher clock rate out of the box but they are also tripple slots so they may not fit very well in your case. You also have to consider that the heat output of the 2 7970 will be bigger than that of the 7990 since they vent the hot air into the case itself(the 7990 does that same but its still only one card).
