Getting a 4670k/4770k, which Board?

Getting one of the above CPU's (probably the 4670k) and looking for a nice board to go with it.

I don't need any extra features and crazy stuff. I want a board that will be future-proof, a very nice overclocker, easy to use etc. Also, not a big fan of SLI/CF, prefer single cards but you never know.

4 Sata's is enough, and I plan on using 2x4GB Ram sticks for now.

Budget is around £160, but I'd rather not spend it all on a board if it is possible.

The Gigabyte Z87X-D3H is a cracking board for the money. Crossfire/SLI capable should you change your mind in the future.

If you are sure you will never use Crossfire/SLI then the Gigabyte Z87-D3HP is another fine board. Not sure if the offer is still on but it was shipping with a free Prolimatech Panther cooler as well.

Gigabyte boards are highly regarded on here plus they have a UK warranty base as well.

You don't really need to spend loads on a board for Haswell as the chances are that you will run out of temp headroom or the cpu will hit it's overclock ceiling long before you run out of options in the bios.

That 4770k on offer would get my vote as they seem to clock better than the 4670k.

The Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H seems nice too, a bit more expensive though. Any feedback on this one?

Again another top board, I actually read over at overclock.net that the VRM section is over-specced (phase count and component choice) for its price point meaning its solid as a rock for its price sector.

I'm thinking that the UD4H is even better? It is in my budget. The UD4H should be a better OCer and has sexier colors :p

The Z87X-OC is cheaper and a beast of a board which is busting overclock records left right and center.

Possibly the best sub £250 board on the market?

It does look nice... Funny how I was set on the cheap D3H and I am now considering the OC lol :p.

Edit: I would like a Noctua DH14 for the CPU and the Z87X OC may have compatibility problems with the GPU on this board (it is mentioned in Noctua's website)

Yeah the top 16X slot is a bit close to the socket meaning it could potentially be blocked by a gigantic heatsink, the UD4 has a 1X slot between this meaning its not affected.

One reason I chose the UD4. Also I can put my soundcard in that slot, as it doesn't matter that it's close to my heatsink.

For regular (non-LN2) overclocking, the UD4 will do just as well as the OC. I got absolutely no difference between the two boards.

Not stalking ya starmanwarz :) the OC board was what I was considering the only decent air cooler I can get where I am is the noctua D14. I couldn't get the K2 where I am, but the size of the cooler is an issue if I can't use the x16 slot. I prob wanna get a new amd gfx card and as they ain't released yet don't know how big they will be. Would like to go water but too much $$ and fear of leaks :/

Thanks, UD4H it is then, unless I decide on a different cooler. Still trying to figure out if the Noctua fits in my case.

Theres that much space between a gfx card and a K2.

If you have a good CPU like I have, then the I found the OC was easier to overclock to 4.9Ghz+ than the UD4H

The CPU will be the 4770k. And I don't really think I can achieve 4.9, I would be really happy with 4.4-4.5. I don't want to push it to the limits :)

O M G...... and looking at the OC board and the noctua d14 it's the clips that get very close to the gfx card... Really wanna know if the 290 will squeeze in wish they would release more info :/

I know you mentioned you'd like the d14 and was concerned with the oc board with this cooler but have you considered a closed water cooler such as an Antec Kuhler 920? it would certainly keep your 4770k cool with a 4.4, 4.5 overclock, check my sig.

The UD4h is also a fantastic bit of kit, whatever you go for you'll be very happy i'm sure. ;)
