I think 1080p on a 24" monitor will look ok bit i dont think i could downsize even for 144hz, i like the prettyness of 1400p too much

2 things you always hear regarding the 24" vs 27" and IPS vs TNs 120/144hz debate is once you game on a 120/144ghz its hard to go back to a IPS or 60hertz panel, the other one is once you go 27" IPS panel and 1440p you can't go back to 1080p or 24" ;)

Oh and forgetting the other one, TN vs IPS, once you see the colours/quality of a IPS panel you cant go back to TN!

Shame I cannot borrow one or hire one for a few weeks.

Apple store time ?

I think if your a serious gamer and need that fps/smoothest gameplay possible ie for BF4 or more then 144hz makes a bit more sense, the issue being as I said in my other reply, you may find dropping from a 27"/1440p/IPS too much of a loss, many people may consider your hazro panel a major upgrade even.

I've just ordered a 27" 1440 monitor as I've pretty much had enough of my XL2420T, as fast as the screen may be compared to IPS, the colours are just bloody awful.

I'm not really too concerned about the drop from 120hz back to 60hz either as I've never really felt the difference.

Don't do it!, I did, seriously regretted it and wasted a lot of money in the process going back to 1440p.

The monitor is not just used for gaming, going back to a larger monitor is more useful for other things.

No way I'd trade my 1440p IPS screen for any washed out low res TN monitor :p
I tried a 120hz TN Panel, eww awful colours.

I bet people who use 27" 60Hz panels can still kick peoples ass of those using 120/144hz washed out colour TN panels, it's more down to gaming skills, and aimbots? lol

Bit of a noob question but if you play pretty much any type of game is the 1440p better then? The only reason to get 144mhz is fps games I have read!

some people swear by 120hz is so much smoother then threre are others like me who couldnt tell the difference however i can tell the differeence between 1080p and 1400p

If you can somehow try use a 120Hz+ monitor to see what you think, as others have mentioned the benefits you may not even notice (hell some people can't tell the diff between 30FPS and 60FPS).

I personally love 120Hz and the smooth game play (and not just isolated to FPS either). I'd also love 1440p+/IPS too, hopefully soon they will marry these together :)

For me, swapping to 120hz was the best thing I ever did for FPS gameplay.

Night and day instantaneous difference in my ability to aim/track and distinguish targets.

Yes you lose out on colour reproduction and overall IQ but when you are actually playing to play and not to gawp at scenes you won't even realise the downside of the IQ but will notice the upside the 120Hz gives you.

I run dual screens, my secondary being an expensive IPS panel which is used for colour critical work and watching videos. So really, I do't lose out on anything.
