I just did the same kind of thing Hamster. Hopefully a last push will get us a few more votes in the right way. It is quite hard to keep up the the amendments and what they really mean, so thanks for the right number. Makes the message easier to send via Twitter and for them to understand what you are talking about.

Bit sad that only Rebecca Taylor and Chris Davies seem to be using twitter on this matter very much. http://www.chrisdaviesmep.org.uk/show_your_support_for_e_cigarettes Chris Davies has a petition you might also what to sign.

I did the Chris Davies one as he falls under my constituency. Already had an automated reply.

"Dear Colleague

Tomorrow we vote on the Tobacco Products Directive and Amendment 170 on e-cigs – which now has the support of the PPE, ALDE and ECR groups as well as many individual S&D MEPs.

E-cigs have the potential dramatically to reduce smoking-related disease. I have hundreds of testimonies from smokers who say they like them, have better health, and no longer want to smoke tobacco.

Excuse the personal note but maybe you have had someone in your family who has died of lung cancer. My father was a heavy smoker – totally addicted, he always had a cigarette in his hands. Nicotine patches would never have been of use to him. But I can imagine him using e-cigs, if only to stop smoking inside the house. They might have given him a few more years of life.

Amendment 170 introduces strict controls on the advertising and marketing of e-cigs, and ensures product safety. But it does not force them to be treated as medicinal products that will restrict their availability.

E-cigs could save millions of lives. We should not make them harder to buy than tobacco.

All the best

Chris Davies MEP"

A lot of the MEPs don't tweet much but I'm sure the tweets do get read daily by their interns who pass on comments and feelings from their constituents if they're in a sizeable number.

According to Chris Davies, we are close to a majority but like you say, a final push from us will hopefully swing it in our direction. 10 minutes of our time could potentially help a lifetime of misery back on cigarettes.

(Thanks for posting the Chris Davies link and I've edited my post to include a link to Clive Bates' blog which gives some information on amendment 170)

Most of my MEPs are on our side, the Labour one is backing Linda so no help there of course.

It's a shame really. Not what I would have expected from the party with the background of liberalism. I for one, as a lifelong labour voter, will never stick my cross in their box in any election ever again.

Seems independent thought doesn't come into it, you just follow from the top. I really don't think ecigs were really on their mind in all this and we have really made it almost the main issue. I'm also against the ban on Snus. I'm not a user but think it is disgusting that you can buy the most dangerous form anywhere in cigarettes but a proven safer form of Snus can't be.

I agree, politicians seem to have little in the way of a conscience. My own MP was one of very few that has spoken out against the MHRA and its practices in the past, yet is now towing the party line on e-cigarettes and is backing MHRA proposals.

In replies that I have read from Labour politicians, they have made their stance on e-cigarettes quite clear. I believe we all need to kick them where it hurts and make it abundantly clear that it's going to affect them in the ballot boxes.

whats the worst case scenario on this devrij?

Everything we can buy will be banned. That is what med regs basically means. At first I thought everyone was exaggerating but it has been proven over the last few months it really does mean that. Mostly it is around liquid, you'd be left only buying from China for liquid most likely.
