Week off in December, where to go?

I have a week off work at the beginning of December, and I feel I ought to do something with it rather than sit around doing nothing.

The idea of going away for a shortish break appeals to me but I have no idea where.

Travel time? A few hours on the plane, nothing hugely far away.
It'll just be me (and I'm not single, so going to a European hotspot and shagging locals isn't possible!), but I have no problem striking up chat with folk when I'm there.
Budget? I'm thinking hostels, and Easyjet rather than Ritz & BA Club World.


I have no idea what I fancy, hence the thread. Advise away!
 
Might sound sad, but have you thought of just driving somewhere nice and booking in to a nice hotel and spend a few days just relaxing & being waited on?

That, or nip over to somewhere like Copenhagen for a few days ;).
 
I'm not really into just sitting around a hotel for a few days, especially in Winter!

It's a really awkward time to go, no one can afford to go anywhere and it's totally out of the usual European backpacking season.

What is your budget ? I know you said hostel but a ballpark number would be nice.

Budget is pretty flexible. I don't mind dipping into savings for a trip that I think would be worth it but I don't want to spend lots. I wouldn't want to spend much more than £200 on flights and accommodation would be £30 or so a night if I'm hitting hostels.

My brother is currently in Cambodia, and I considered flying to Bangkok and meeting up with him. Whilst I can afford the flights, I don't want to go that far for a week.

Budget isn't really that important, just trying to find somewhere that would be good in December by myself (though I'm pretty good at meeting folk).
 
Krakov, the old town is lovely in december and there's lots do do and see (Auschwitz is not far etc). Very cheap for accomodation/flights/beer/food etc

Alternatively just look up flights on skyscanner and see where you can go for cheap.
 
Vienna if you've not been, and stay in one of the Wombats. Parents used to live there, so I'm biased, but it is lovely around Christmas.
