Building my son gaming PC for the first time.spent an obscene amount of time on the net researching the main three bits listed below.would be gratefully for someone in the know to tell me if these bits will give a good frame rate and handle most modern games bf4 day zee etc,Don't really want to spend much more already spent £400 on the unimportant bits.

AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail

Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3

MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards

Many thanx.

thats the same setup i have.

and i cant run BF4 at good frame rates.. well not in 720 or 1080p i cant.

for good frames rates in bf4 your looking at £1000+ im afraid :(

That's only because the beta has a bug with the 6300.

The 8320 is a better option for BF4 though and is fine with that board. Ideally up that 7850 to a 7950 if you can stretch the budget, it'll go a lot further.

How do you know there's a bug with the fx6300 ?

and it would have to be the chip i have .... :(

Because there are about a million posts from 6300 owners complaining it's unplayable :) And in the benchmarks it's completely in the wrong place.

e.g. here, in line with other games, the 6300 should be above the 8150.

ok smart arse :p, you and your tables ;)

still dont know how you find this stuff lol

I can find benchmarks, you can turn guitars into PCs.

But don't worry about the CPU. Remember DICE said the recommended spec was an AMD 6 core CPU or better. I would try to sell the 7850 and get a 7950 while they're at such low prices if you can.

Doormat, this would be my recommended BF4 spec:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) **FREE SHIPPING** £185.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
Total : £395.96 (includes shipping : FREE).

If that's too much, then this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS Radeon R9 270X IceQ X2 Boost 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £155.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
Total : £347.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Both allow the CPU to overclock, which will give a good extra boost in performance. The first one is much preferable over the second.

That's it then thanx his 7950 and 8320 it is then.Im assuming a corsair 600 will be ok for this set up.

Yeah, that's fine. Those two will run BF4 extremely well, but I'd recommend not using the stock cooler and getting a reasonably good one (£30ish) so you can overclock and get the most from the CPU.

I hope your son appreciates all the time and research you've put into this for him, he's going to get a great system once it's all together. He's a lucky lad :)

What are the unimportant bits you've spent the £400 on? Maybe should have asked on here before buying them, may have saved some money which could have gone towards the 'important bits' and allowed you to go with Intel(Intel vs and incoming? ;) ).

built from scratch so monitor keyboard mouse psu memory headset hard drive optical drive and not forgetting the 19 pound mouse mat???.Windows 7 or 8 is my next problem.
