So one of today's special offers from OCUK is a DVD writer drive for a very reasonable price.

"Convert your DVDs and CDs to digital with this awesome 24 speed Optical drive!"

Convert them to digital? Ummm....

They've just rehashed the broken English from the manufacturer's wording most likely.

I sometimes like to add an I to various To Let signs, and then watch confused tourists tug at the doors in desperation.

I bought a bag of mixed fruit and nuts the other day and on the back it actually says "May contain traces of nuts".

Yes.

A CD or a DVD is not digital, it is a physical object. Digital means something which can be stored on a hard drive. So convert to digital is correct.

Digital versatile disc... Its in the name :)

It's still physical, something you can hold and takes actual space on a shelf. Rip it to hard drive and bin it, you have a net gain in space, as the digital copy occupies no more physical space than if it were not made. /pedant

Eh? You are not converting the physical CD or DVD to anything. You are merely copying the already digital information from one form of physical media and storing it on another.
