I've had enough, this car has to go!

Quick update for anyone interested

The finance company will no longer deal with the complaint as I bought the car more than 6 months ago, yet their website says the time from the original purchase doesn't matter. So power is back with Jaguar, who are now going to make me an offer on the car, which I'm expecting to be ridiculously low as they know I have no other option.

Brilliant...

Looks like I'm going to have to give them a chance to fix it all again when I take it on Thursday and just hope it's fixed and nothing else comes up. Or I just take the hit and be left with a 1-2k bill from the offer to the amount left on finance

A third option is of course just to trade it in to another dealership for another car (non Jaguar), but according to Parkers, the trade in value on them isn't that brilliant at the moment

If it says so on their web site, why don't you hold the finance company to their word?

I did, but they said anything over six months and it needs to be more serious a complaint than mine currently is :(

They said if I send them all the job sheets from the work I've done, they can push Jaguar to fix it for me but that's all they can do unless it develops into something more serious

Yeah that's always an option, but trying to sell a car with finance is difficult as people are put off even when you explain that the money from the sale will be used to pay off the finance

Could you borrow the money off someone or somebody, pay off the finance, sell the car privately then repay the money asap?

So the issues I've had since owning it

- Fuel sender issue, fuel gauge was effectively useless it would fill up and empty as I accelerated
- Pipe in the brake system failing so my brake pedal would randomly loose all tension and I'd have a loose brake pedal. It also would clunk like mad, I made a thread about it
- Drivers side window motor developed a fault where it wouldn't realise if it was open or shut so couldn't use the window
- After they fixed this, the hinge of the door now cracks when I open the door and it feels like the door will fall off sometimes. Also the door card hasn't been put on properly so it vibrates and rattles
- Two pipes under the car started making a low rumble/vibration sound that was quite loud even with music on, this happened at low revs, after 1500rpm, it would stop. Pipes replaced
- After this was fixed, the centre console wasn't put on properly and now has bits rolling around inside that move when cornering and rattle when cruising above 60
- Speaker wire loom in drivers side door had to be replaced as it just came loose and would create a racket, a common fault apparently
- Rear parking sensors went crazy and would go off even when nothing behind me, the graphical display would also resemble an equaliser as well
- Glove box sensor has turned faulty so glove box clicks constantly and won't stay shut
- After attempting to fix that the trim where the sensor was is now loose and has popped off while driving
- Car developed a real loud squeaking noise that was made worse by hot weather. Was apparently to do with something they didn't sort when they fixed the fuel sender issue but took them 3 visits to find out and fix it, that was a pain. Literally had to use noise cancelling headphones with that problem as it was like having tinnitus

There's been a few other minor things such as lights in the cabin, but those have been fixed there and then when I've taken it in. The above ones all required me to have a hire car

Whats actually wrong with it right now though? Thats what matters here. It seems to be just crappy trim finish and rattles now?

So the glove box is still an issue, the centre console and whatever they messed up underneath is still broken, the door card on the drivers side is still horrible fitted and the problem with the door not opening properly. And the latest problem with the trim above the dash popping off

It's that, and more to do with the fact that if all these problems have occurred in 7 months, what else is going to go wrong? It just seems like a bad example of an XF

And yeah I get what you're saying about it just being rattles. But I challenge you to drive it right now, the rattles are ridiculously loud and the sort that drive you crazy due to them being constant, and also coming from all angles

If I were you I would...

1) Write a list of all of the half jobs and subsequent issues caused by the dealership themselves and get them to put these right (assuming too much time hasn't passed by)

2) Look into whether you could do a retrofit of the glovebox button from a later model (not knowing the Jag I have no idea if this is possible or not)

3) For all the other minor trim issues I'd get on every Jag forum and online resource I could find. I'd be surprised if someone out there hasn't already come across and documented these issues and rectified them.

4) Enjoy the car.

Fixed for you :p

The problem you've got is that rattles are, in most peoples eyes, not a big deal. I'm totally with you, rattles drive me INSANE and I wouldnt want to keep a car that rattled either.

Trouble is the major issues are fixed and the 'but something else might go wrong' argument won't give you any real power with the finance company or Jaguar.

So fundamentally all thats wrong with your car now is a bunch of chimps have totally failed to put it back together in a rattle free fashion. This is massively annoying but sadly not nearly enough to reject a car :(

Unfortunately you're probably right.

Yeah it does feel like that now. But the thing is, if they fix it on Thursday and get it back to how it was the first week I had it, and it stops throwing up all these silly problems, I won't be disappointed as I don't want to get rid of the car, it's a great car, just in its current state and with the luck I've had with it, it feels like I can't enjoy it

this blows :( got my fingers crossed that it comes back and the only sound you hear from it is the radio and engine ;)

could just get a few tubes of silicone sealant and go ham on every join/seam/hinge xD

squeaking irritates the pants off me as well!

Feel for you :(
I also have a 10-plate XF, and have found it simply amazing. Only niggle, and it really is pushing the definition of niggle - especially in light of your car's woes - is that somewhere between 80-90mph (which I naturally only know about from private roads and test tracks and so on) there is a rattle of sorts from somewhere over the front passenger side. Definitely internal, sounds like a speaker grille or similar, but cannot find the source :(
Anyway, hope you get some resolution :)

Might be worth taking your car to Jaguar, it's a common fault for the wire loom near the speaker to come loose or split and vibrate against the door card/speaker at speed. They usually fix it free of charge even if you don't have a warranty due to it being such a common issue.

Glad you're having a better time than I am though, I'm jealous as I know what fantastic cars they can be :(

Cool, thanks - will give them a call. I should be in their good books, as forked out almost £450 last Saturday on a full (B) service
