Edit: To clarify exactly, I mean 2x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.4ghz
Asus P8Z68-V LX
CoolerMaster Hyper 212
AMD Radeon 6950 2048mb << Changing, obviously
OCZ Special 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Seagate 2TB BARRACUDA 7200RPM (x2)
Kingston 96GB V+100 2.5" SSD
CIT 700W Black Edition PSU
Fractal Design Define R3

1) Will my motherboard be good for 2x6950s
2) Will the two cards fit in my case okay?
3) If yes and yes, what extra cables/stuff will I need to buy with the cards? Never done crossfire before.

2500k will need clocking a bit more... I had mine at 4.6Ghz for my 7950's so if you can get yours any higher it'll help.

Everything else looks fine

Your 2500k @ 4.4hz will be fine with a pair of 7950's. But I would not trust your PSU with one let alone two of them. It's a very budget PSU and not really up to the job. I would budget in another £80-£100 for a new decent quality PSU.

The second PCI-E slot on your motherboard only supports 4x mode so although it will work it could hold back the card a bit.

If you game at 1080p an upgrade from a 6950 to 7950 will see some nice gains on it's own. Personally I would get the one card and see how you get on before going xfire.

I had a 2500k and it could not push 2 7950's to 100% in every game so his at 4.4 won't

Mine happily at 4.5Ghz ran Crossfire 7970's and SLi 780's without a struggle.

I now have a 4770K @ 4.5Ghz and tbh it was the biggest waste of money upgrade I have made. I see very little gains over my 2500K setup. Even the BF4 beta runs no different with HT on or OFF.

I would still be more concerned over the PSU at the moment.... :)

That psi will probably give you less than 550w under load seen as it will only be a bronze psu at best.

I would get another psu or risk killing your pc altogether.

7950's with that 2500k will pull less then 550w so he's all good.

It's a £25 PSU. I would not be trusting that with any high spec pc components.

Working is one thing but working then going bang and taking out everything it is connected too is another.

lol i wouldn't use that psu with one card nevermind two :D

also id be looking at a second hand i7 if going two cards.

550w is still more then he would need... You're taking less then 500w for the system

A quality PSU is needed. This is a cheap PSU using poor qulaity internal components.

A PSU being able to deliver smooth clean voltage on the 12v line is and should be a number one priority in a high spec gaming system.

The CIT PSU the O/P has is by far a good quality PSU and the reason it is only £25.

also id be looking at a second hand i7 if going two cards.

Exactly what I did and regret every part of it. 2500k at 4.4Ghz is more than up to the job of driving a pair of 7950's.

You're right...

OP go and buy a 1200w PSU and be done with it.

That's a bit of a silly thing to say. A decent 600w will do the job as long as it has a decent high current 12v line.

I would go for a decent 750w from the likes of Corsair with a nice robust 62A available on the 12v line.

Moogleys correct, sorry op but that Cit Psu is rubbish and not up to the job, personally I would recommend a good 750W from Corsair or Seasonic or Bequiet. Cpu is ok, I am running xfire 7950 and don't see a problem. Would only matter if you are looking to set world records, a few fps here or there wont matter too much. :)

Well plenty of others, including myself, have seen benefits from moving to an i7 with dual cards in some games. Have you actually benchmarked both to compare or are you just talking a naked eye comparison here?

The latter I think, I moved from a 4.6Ghz 2500k to a 4.7Ghz 2700k and in some games the difference is quite substantial.

Yo, previous 8350 owner from OCn here and i heard you're banned from OCn? :o.

Anyways @MJR90, you're going to bottleneck them, ESPECIALLY in games like BF4 where the game will use up to 8 threads. Ive heard people struggle with single GPUs in the game with i5s. Its time to upgrade.

What's OCN got to do with here? I have low tolerance levels to idiots posting wrong information, admin had me about it, I called admin an idiot.. I got banned... Big deal.... it's gone down hill over there the last couple of years anyway, no longer the forum it used to be.

And BF4 is still in Beta form so I wouldn't pass judgement on its CPU performance until it's final release.
