maximus vi formula not fitting in cosmos s case

I recently ordered a 4770k plus maximus vi formula to replace my current asrock extreme 7 gen 3 plus 2500k, the other day I came to fit the motherboard into the case(cosmos s) but the stand offs aren't lining up with the screw holes on the motherboard(well I can wiggle the motherboard about a bit to line up the top 3 but the others still don't.

Any suggestions before I have to order another case? Well I've been wanting to upgrade the case for ages(its 5years old, don't know why I bought it in the first place), but due to having spent £500-£600 on the motherboard, CPU and ssd(250gb samsung evo, the crucial m4 128gb stopped working so had to a new os drive) upgrade I was planning on holding off the case upgrade for the time being.

Do the standoffs not unscrew and move? With most cases they do, and it's likely that at least some of the mounting holes are in a different place on the two boards.

If the board physically fits (ie the case isn't too small), then the standoff positions should be able to accommodate it.

if its a standered ATX board and a ATX case then it should fit ?

try moving the standoffs to the places where they should

The standoffs do move but for the other sizes(matx etc).
Should have said the back panel plate that fits in the case is padded while the precious ones weren't, its the padding that's stopping the motherboard being pushed in further to be lined up correctly with the standoffs.

then remove the padding lol, or try and make it fit.

it mist fit as thats how its designed.

I agree with jonnyp, it will fit, it's either not quite lined up correctly, or the I/O shield isn't quite in place properly.

I did think about removing the padding, any chance that'll cause any shorting(or any other issues) if I did that?

It shouldn't cause any issues, but conversely, it should fit fine with the padding.

I still say something is out by a few mm somewhere.

Mine was the same, as said make sure the io plate is inserted properly. With theese padded shields asus use, you just need a bit of pressure. Screw the outermost mobo screws first and this will stop the board from moving about.

Thanks for the replies, I will give the suggestions a try. I might end just saying to hell with it and get a new case anyway, since buying the cosmos s I've more so then not regretted buying it and been wanting to get something better.

Trying to decide between a corsair 540 or 750d, I will be watercooling in the near future(was thinking of getting one of the ocuk tech lab watercooled cases but think I'll get the case for now and do the watercooling in the next few months).

Be careful not to crush the socket pins on an Asus motherboard, they will totally reject RMA if you do. Not like AsRock, Gigabyte.

Please don't mention bent/crushed CPU socket pins, don't want the bad omen after the fiasco that was the asrock extreme 7 gen 3(wishing I never gave into temptention, should have gone with something else).

Well after mulling it over for awhile I thought I'd settled on the 750d but I seem to be split again between it and the 540, what to do as I'm planing on wcing in the future.

Also is the seasonic 860w platinum worth the extra £20 over the seasonic-x 850w? Oh and what about the corsair ax860, that or one if the two seasonics?
