£1000 upgrade for next lot of games

Sorry i was incorrect.

The 7970 TF3 was there last week.

But it doesnt change anything, you can still find reference cards.

No you cant.

Admit you are wrong and move on.

Also the better quality PCB/VRMS will allow higher more stable clocks while on air and the VRMS will remain cooler as the current load is spread across them.

P.S a 7970 TF3 (TwinFrozrIII) is not reference either.

I did admit i was wrong.

My 7970 Matrix wouldnt clock over 1250 for benching. My ref 7970 did 1300 on air for benching and 1380 on water. I dont see what makes the matrix better.

Well the actual GPU core does play a factor too (silicon lottery) so while the PCB and circuitry maybe up to the job the actual core isnt.

People like 8pack go through many samples of a product to get the good ones for their benching, so if he is given say 5 of those MSI GTX780 lightings to use, only one or two of them maybe good ones capable of the the high MHz he needs to break records.

My point is that you would think they cherry pick the damn chips when you pay a little more for 30000000 phases and japanese caps or whatever. Dismantled jet parts etc etc.

Still, prove that the TF3 isnt a ref card, i want to be proven wrong because im about to buy a second 7970 for xfire.

Who cares about the cooler?!?!? I want the PCB so i can watercool it... The card is REFERENCE REGARDLESS of cooler...

You said,

Whats with the crappy 7970s you guys are suggesting??? Suggest a ref card...

Referring the OP should be getting a AMD refernce design card including cooling.

• The 7970 TOP is not crappy
• Its in stock!
• Its faster/cooler/quieter than a reference card
• It comes with free games
• It has a better selection of display connectors

If the OP was at all interested in water cooling his GFX card (unlikely) then EK do water blocks that fit.

So... You think the cooler makes a card reference? Lol... Just lol...

No, I said that you said that the OP should get a reference card (both PCB+cooling)

No where did you say the OP should get a reference design PCB because it can be water cooled (although you can get water cooling blocks for non reference PCBs too)

You made some uneducated blanket statement that the Asus 7970TOP+Matrix was "crappy"

This thread is about getting the best spec for the OP and his budget, this has been achieved.

Where did i say he needed reference cooling? The CARD and COOLER are 2 different components, seriously. Admit you where wrong and move on.

Blank uneducated statement? I have owned a Matrix and i could've written a novel about how crap it is. Stop making uneducated claims.

But yea, i guess the OP will love his Matrix, DC2 or whatever he bought. Im out.

And there is definitely more to a ref card than block compatibility... Well what could that be? Oh idk unlocked voltage? No boost bios? Use whatever OC program you like?

You did right there.

That suggests a reference card (which come from AMD as both PCB+cooler together)

TF3 is a ref card with an MSI cooler.

Ive come to the conclusion you're just too proud of yourself to admit you're wrong. I said reference card, i never said reference card and REFERENCE COOLER.

Plenty of non-reference design 7970 allow voltage control and various programs to be used.

Heres one I used earlier :D - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=24145098

Yes it does come with a non-reference cooler:D

You said we should suggest reference cards, as these only come complete from AMD including their own reference design cooler, its implying a stock reference AMD card such as this - http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7970ghz/Pages/radeon-7970GHz.aspx
