£1000 upgrade for next lot of games

Plenty of non-reference design 7970 allow voltage control and various programs to be used.

Heres one I used earlier :D - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=24145098

Yes it does come with a non-reference cooler:D

You said we should suggest reference cards, as these only come complete from AMD including their own reference design cooler, its implying a stock reference AMD card such as this - http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7970ghz/Pages/radeon-7970GHz.aspx

Why? Why do you think its defined as PCB + cooler? PCB alone isnt a card? Selling a 7970 with a block wouldnt be selling a graphics card?

Its defined like that as that's how it is (or was) sold.

They came complete from AMD as a whole GFX card, not just a PCB.

Yea i can do that too and validate in GPUz.

Just validate? that HIS could run benches too.

The PCB IS reference design, and thats all that matters.

So why not say something like,

"Hey guys why are suggesting those 7970's? a 7970 with a reference PCB will be better should the OP want to water cool it later"

Not

"those 7970 are crappy blah blah blah, suggest a reference card"

Notice I highlighted the card bit;) not PCB.

1300 isnt really that big of a deal lol. And if you actually read some, the op got what he wanted.

I did read.

So why are you still arguing about reference PCB's/coolers?

Instead, start your own thread and make your claim for reference cards being superior to every other type of card

The bare PCB is not considered a card? And a PCB with a block on it is not considered a card either?

Thats why its called a PCB, a GFX card comes sold with cooling.

Ok ive got a 7970 PCB in my pc lol (Not a graphics card)

hahahhahahahhahahah

"Hey dude do you have a PCB or a graphics card in your PC?" hahahahhahahahha are you for real??? What the hell hahahha.

So Hydro copper cards arent graphics cards, they're PCBs. All the shops put them in the wrong section, it should be in PCBs not graphics cards.

No you have a GFX card in your PC as you will have some form of cooling attached to it (air or water doesn't mater) and not just a bare PCB.

I suggest you stop taking this "spec me" thread off topic and just accept that the OP has the best possible component suggestion at that time.

Please keep refrain from the hand bagging in future ladies.. It's not helpful and doesn't look good for those looking in.

I have to agree with this, I feel that with the forums so closely linked with the commercial side of OcUK that things like whats happened in this thread can harm the business. Maybe not so much in GD or Motors (where I have all my arguments) etc but definitely hardware related forums should be under tighter control.

How does it perform better?

Cooler temperatures and lower noise output....

You wont find a reference 7970 AMD card being sold new these days.

The Asus is clocked higher, uses a better quality PCB and VRMs, the cooler is quieter and cooler.

It also has a great array of display connectors.

The only downside is its three slots thick.

Stulid and danyulland is true, have you seen any benchmarks ?

Exactly what he said. Reference card..... How can you find a 7970 top crap...... Unbelievable
