Wealth distribution and its inequality in the Uk.

Economics and taxation for dummies... scratch that.... some of the ideas being bandied around by some are ridiculous and beyond dummy level. £10m caps? Good luck with that comrade. I'm just waiting for "toilet cleaners and brain surgeons should be paid similar wages" next, in order for me to have a real laugh a minute.

Cuba seems to be doing well in terms of equality and its brain surgeons are paid in line with cleaners and tradesmen. The notion of a wage is a capitalist construct and if your going to take it too extremes like that then you need to be thinking outside the capitalist box.

As much as I talk, I'm not even sure I'm comfortable with the idea we have reached that stage yet.

Interesting, so you believe Brain Surgeons only do it for the money?

I think you may have a somewhat idolised view of Cuba...

They "sucked" up all the wealth because their companies were so successful, because they provided products people wanted...

or convinced people they want something they do not need which is something most technology companies do.
people are brainwashed into needed the latest iphone etc like there life won't be the same with the old model.
We went from a resourceful bunch able to tinker and fix things into a throw away society where all money is basically disposed off on things we are told we must have it's almost like it's a way to keep people poor or in debt to control them

some clothing company even started basically from giving their gear to the hip people at uni's etc which is where the term hipster seems to have came from.
people being made to think they must have XXX

Only you are talking a load of ****. The reality is that cleaners, tour guides, hotel maids etc. basically anyone working in the tourist industry is far wealthier due to the tips they receive whereas brain surgeons don't receive tips so the whole thing is skewed.

lol if you think that I idolise or believe Cuba is without faults, even without its existence in an extremely hostile largely capitalist global playing field. Its still an example, so how am I talking ****? Yes there are outside influences scewing their situation but that does not mean that brain surgeons are further out of line with their comrades in other lines of work in comparison to other examples.

So you are saying Cuba is a good example of paying everyone equally as long as we completely ignore all the bad things that happen in Cuba?

Where is the logic in that?

out the window?

obviously job that needs training and many years of medical study should pay more than a job most people can pick up within a few hours.
depending of course on what type of machinery is at your disposal such as those buffer machines.
cleaning isn't just some guy with a mop and bucket

out of curiosity does anyone know if cleaners in a building such as a hospital where cleanliness and hygiene is most important and likely you need to know more than how to use a mop and bucket get paid more than cleaners in a office or somewhere?

I'd imagine hospital cleaners require some form of cleaning training? like how hospital staff are taught to wash their hands properly and the knowledge required to do a proper thorough cleaning job might not be so obvious?

Do you beleive a brain surgeon should be paid the same as a cleaner?

Hang on, didn't you do a degree in economics or finance or something? I know most people are uneducated beyond the norm but surely you did a module or two that touched upon economic theory's beyond basic supply and demand capitalism?!

Most seem to fail pretty miserably when put in to practice. Maybe if you had studied a bit of history you would have known that? :)

I am well aware of their failures, having studied history. Maybe if you had studied it a bit in depth you would see the failures were far and beyond the sole reason being the economic model? :)

(And let's not bring up the failures of capitalism...)

Not true they are paid well above national averages although low for international standards. They are also not very good but hey if you want to spend the rest of your life dribbling, with a nasty lop sided expression, then by all means fly to Havana.

More in line with cleaners than say, the UK. I am well aware of Cubas short comings, I was not using it as an ideal.

This is the attitude as well. Cleaning is a worthless job so they should be paid crap for it and be thought as worthless and demeaned doing it. And then they wonder why we have problems.

Yes it is more inline as I acknowledged it is however still nowhere near. It also misses the glaringly obvious fact the good doctors emigrate to the states and you are left with someone who can't do their job - which proves nothing other than you pay for quality.
