PlayStation 5 won't be a physical console...

No chance, that completely relies on a good internet connection, and Sony is not going to be stupid enough to base a whole generation on everyone having good connections.

People with poor connections can still enjoy consoles now, those with poor connections simply wouldn't pay money to Sony if they went this way with consoles.

This I can just imagine the amount of problems it would cause, also the bandwidth needed would be ridiculous.

Just to add it would completely ruin any competitive scene too as it creates input lag.

That depends on how long the new gen lasts but yeah, it's coming.

I think it is some wild speculation there by the Tekken producer. I agree with you plainsong though, if this gen lasts the 8/9 years like the current gen has who knows where things will be. It isn't so long ago that suggesting businesses using thin clients would have got you laughed at so why is it so difficult to imagine that a similar thing couldn't happen with consoles? Maybe it will be the ps5 maybe not until ps10 or maybe not at all. I think the ps5 is currently too far into the future to even start to predict what it will be like but it is also too early to start ruling out possibilities.

In theory this could be a great idea but in reality I can't see it happening, not within 10 years anyway. I guess now that Sony own Gaikai they're probably planning to implement it as a service over the lifespan of the PS4 to test the waters.

still need hardware to connect to cloud and run the games. doubt console users want to fiddle with hardware instead of all in 1 system

probably going to be a console with limited HDD capacity and games will be stored on a cloud kind of like PS+ stores your saved data online

still PSN needs vast improvement because connection and lag isn't the greatest in my experience

They're basically trying this with the PS Vita TV.

A small & cheap device that you just plug in and is capable of streaming PS1/PS2/PS3 games through Gaikai.

Who knows what internet speeds we will have in 8 years. What internet speed did you have 8 years ago? and what do you have now? Throw in some moore's law on top of that.

Sometimes a limiting factor is completely taken out of the equation. In the Amiga days, reviews would always talk about how much speech had been included in a game. Once CD based consoles came about, it was instantly irrelevant.

If this is the case, surely there isn't even a need for a 'PS5' and can be run for a PS4?

No doubt someone will find a way to convince the market that a new system at £400 is needed though.

Its pointless even discussing a PlayStation 5 when we don't even have the PlayStation 4 yet.

If this current generation has shown anything, its that it can last a very long time. The future is a long way away at the moment, so speculating about anything is a waste of time really.

OnLive has been around for couple of years now and seemed to work ok with current broadband speeds, the only let down was the poor graphics and choice of games.

Can't see why Sony wouldn't takes things to the cloud for future gen games whilst still implementing the PS4. It would be best of both worlds, PS4 for those with limited broadband speeds yet enjoying the capabilities of ps4 and cloud based next next gen titles processes via cloud but using the ps4 to play.
