Any point buying my own home when I pay £250 Rent month

... Sounds like you need to move upt' north :D

1 bed maisonette 10mins walk from newcastles city centre £76 a week or whatever I pay it's definitely 70odd.

it's in the wrong part of town but I've never had any trouble around here and the way developments are going down near pitt street the area is likely to improve over time

Thanks for all the great advice guys :)

I don't earn massive amounts of money but its enough to live a good life - I've always been able to save and buy all the things I like so now's the time to start saving for the big move in 5 years time ;) Ill post a picture here in 5 years time , I guess my options are to look for a better paid job or start my own if I want to carry on buying all the last'est gadgets & Holidays

But he must own a house otherwise he's a worthless piece of trash whose never going to find a woman. </sarcasm>

He earns 15k, and has chosen a lifestyle. You can't buy a house on 15k/year. He wants to enjoy himself not spend every penny he earns on simply existing. Which is fair enough imo. The opinions of people on this forum are so far removed from the reality of the lower working class. Yeah, he could probably save a bit more money but who does nowadays? There are millions of people in this country not saving enough for retirement. He is not alone.

then he will be in good company when he's retired fishing at the local river ;) whilst the rest of us are enjoying our retirement many years before he gets to

Having grown up in an extremely working class family, I can confirm, you're full of ****.

My parents always said about the value of owning a house and having something put aside for retirement. So did my grandparents and all.

The OP has thousands in gadgetry and goes on holiday 3 times a year, he's not lower working class. There is such a thing as balancing your finances, instead of blowing it all on crap like millions of careless idiots in the current generation, then he could balance his finances and save up for a cheap flat and still have some of the fun.

He's 30, not 18 after all.

It's not about spending everything on a house, it's about planning for the future while enjoying the present, and in parts of the country, £15k is plenty to buy a 1 bed flat somewhere.

30 and you've got no savings? not started your deposit?
I'd be cutting back on all the extarvagance and start saving as much as you can per month, on your own at 15k p/a you'd struggle tbh.

Depends on location but bills from our recent places have looked at being:

350 - 690 Mortgage/Rent
90 - 110 Council Tax
75 - 100 Gas/electric
22 -35 Insurance
2-300 on food/drink
30-40 sky/BB
30- 40 Water

15k yer probably looking at around £1,084.88 per month without any allowances or changes from standard so yer looking at a large chunk of that on what would be "essential" bills, so even if you do manage to save a decent chunk then lenders will be very cautious as your affordability would be relatively low.

I'm sure it's been said and resolved by this point, but...

Start saving as much as you can, right away.

Still enjoy your life, but you won't be paying £250 a month forever. You should at least have a pension started.

There's no way you could afford millions of careless idiots on 15k a year.

Its terrible to even post this link, however I think this does sum up many people living at home.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...-home-And-parents-beware-make-blood-boil.html

explaining that my meagre earnings as a freelance makes leaving home any time soon a financial impossibility.

I am part of a generation who can't get well-paid jobs, can't afford houses and as a result can't even leave home.
apparently theres a whole generation around the age of thirty that can not get a decent job..........
Why should I? Where could I live this well, with three meals a day, a laundry service, full use of the garden and all utilities - all completely free? Where is the incentive to strike out on my own?
lazy ***** you are supposed to take care of your parent's once they get old! not make them wait on you hand and foot
If that was my child I would be kicking her out

as I've said before my rent for a 1bed maisonette is like £76 and I'm not exactly poor, okay I live up north where it's cheaper than down south but if you can not afford to live in london then maybe move to somewhere you can afford to live and get a proper job.......

although I have nothing against people who do live with their parent's as long as they treat them with the respect and love they deserve which this "woman" or should I say "girl" clearly does not.
she sounds like a bloody teenager from the entitlement generation.

although maybe the parent's told her how she's "special" all these years like some kind of fairy tale princess shrek and they are to blame for not grounding her in the real world

OMFG if you google her name to find other frelance articles she has done it get's worse I sincerely hope this is just someone trolling a living out of gullible places like the daily mail

I keep thinking that I should maybe buy my own home but cant help but think if I do ill never have any money for Holidays and luxury goods.

I don't earn that much money may be like 15k a Year max .

I Currently live in my brothers 4 bedroom house and pay £250 rent a month Total and this covers everything from SKY HD to BT Broadband.

I have the biggest room in the house , I have Top range 46" TV , PS3 , Xbox , £1000 PC . £500 Monitor ect. I could easily save for a deposit on a house but what's the point right ? If I had partner and children then its makes sense but because I'm single guy it just makes sense to carry on the way I am as I'm happy :)

I also go on 3 Holidays a year , went to Mexico this year and went on Ski Trip in Tignes in Feb so I live a good life.

What would you do ? Save and move out or stay carry on with my life how it is, Just want some advice from a different perspective

Just so you know I just turned 30. ;)

If you have cheap rent then it the perfect time to save. Be that for a house deposit or other financial goals it doesn't matter.

Your right guys I should take advantage of my cheap rent and save as much as possible over the next 3-4 years I'm just going to go on one Holiday next year and from Monday next week when I get paid I am Saving 50% of my wages weekly and putting in my ISA :)

I read that section in the daily mail and yes she is one lazy bitch ! not paying anything is wrong , everyone should pay some money to help out. I don't pay my bro anymore as he gets £250 from me and £250 from 2 others living in the house so the mortgage is being paid by us and hes on 25K a year lol so hes got it easy :)

I just want to add that all my friends that have mortgages have done it with a partner or have had parents pay the house deposit ! I don't have that option . But I do hope in 4 years time that if I don't meet someone to buy a house with then I will try get my brother to get a joint mortgage with me that's if he can get another one ? not sure how that works.

You don't seem to believe it?

Think we can all just walk into highly paid jobs?

I know you don't want to hear this, but if I moved out I'd be losing money just to stay alive. Rent + food + bills would be more than what I earn.

I'd have to move into some slum area like Manchester or Newcastle.

This is my point why I don't rent somewhere as at the end of the day all you would do is work come home and pay bills and never have any holidays or a life , I know people that live this life style and all they do is moan that they never have any money , I think this is why I have decided to stay with my bro so long as I have it so easy so you can't blame me at this moment in time for staying here, But don't get me wrong I do want to move out when I can but I don't want to struggle , I want to live my life knowing that when I turn 60 I can look back and say , well done I've been half way around the world , I've met some amazing people , I have my own home , To me that would be the perfect ending , Some people just stay in there home town forever and never leave and have no ambition about traveling or seeing the world I don't get it. I like adventure so I guess that's why I travel around the world & the fact I have lost lots of close friends over the past 5 years again makes me think live for the moment and not the future.
