Transfer of money

Basically have some money on German savings account in euros, how can I transfer it to UK into pounds with minimal losses??

The amount is under 10k euros.

buy 10k euro worth of gold fly it over via ryan air
sell the gold in the UK for £

duty calculator says you wouldn't pay tax/duty but I thought gold bullion bars were if you tried to bring them in?
not that I was being serious anyway I as just curious

oh wait because it's from Germany the tax is already paid in Germany right? or is it different if you bring it on a plane

obviously you would pay more tax than currency exchange rates/bank fees but still it's GD

Direct bank to bank transfer, you will only get hit for one exchange rate, either pick the German one or your UK bank one when you transfer.
Some banks charge to send, some are doing it free now.

Can you not get a cheap return to Germany, withdraw the money, enjoy some beer and sausages and then bring it back in your hand luggage?

But then he ends up with euros, in cash, which are going to be more problematic to get a good exchange rate on in the UK than an electronic transfer between accounts. A very daft idea.

yea flight costs + exchange rates

It's pretty much a no brainer with the method just finding which bank has the best rates.

unless your planning to buy a lot of stuff online in euros anyway
