Even before i fill the tank, i check ohms and to see if the coils are lighting up properly...they are but soon as i prime it with juice...bang burnt taste even when im pulsing it to see whats going on. Once its primed i pulse it and i see freaking hotspots all over the place ie some coils are heating up quickly and others arent and im doing a 3 wrap on 2mm ekowool. So i just dont know what is going on now, i did managed to nail the double strand method when i first got the kfl but since then i havent been able to get anything decent out of it.



At first i thought i was but i coil a little bit more loosely but still not helping matters much, im getting lots of hotspots and when i get rid of those...i then get a burnt taste.


Ill have to do it when i get home later tonight.

I've been thinking about getting a RSST and doing my own coils but reading the problems yas has being having has kinda put me off.

Are they really that much of a pain.

LOL it is if you dont get it right, its like i said i must be doing something wrong or perhaps the coil and wick method im using is just too advanced for me. So im going to try the micro coil and cotton wool trick tonight and fingers crossed it works.

Dont get me wrong, its fustrating to say the least but once you get it right and it vapes like a dream then there is a hell of a lot of satisfaction you get from doing it. Sadly ive only experienced it once, the day i got my KFL and got it working properly.
 
Yas, how about just trying a basic wick?
use some 2mm or 3mm ekowool, do 4 wraps, as its just 1 length of wick you should still be around 2oHms as the coil will be a smaller girth.
Cut the wick, so it sits on top of the deck.
Dont do the wraps too tight, i usually use a needle or cocktail stick, along the length of the wick, so i wrap the coil over the wick and needle, screw it down, remove needle and test for ohms and hot spots.
My feeling is that you are wrapping the coils too tight over the wick, therefore starving the coils of juice. but i may be wrong

Yeh am gonna just try a basic wick and coil and see where it goes ie if i get it right or wrong lol.

At the moment im at work so cant try to wick and coil till i get home later. But originally thats what i thought, i was coiling too tightly so my next coil i didnt wrap it so tightly but im still getting a burnt taste regardless.

Good tip though, ill get cocktail stick which i have plenty of and coil around that against the wick...hopefully that will solve the wrapping of the coil being too tight or not.

As fustrating as this is getting, i dont want to give up...far too proud to admit im giving up and the missus is finding it all very cute and endearing that im not giving up just yet even tho im pretty much at the end of my tether with the KFL lol.
 
Well i did it and it works! :)

Kayfun Lite up and running at 1.8ohms. Pretty damn good too. Not the prettiest coil I'm sure but it works and GVC tastes good. :D

Stick with it Yas' you will get it right and then wonder what all the fuss was about. :)
 
Guys, you know what I like about using a vertical cotton nanocoil on my DID? :P

When the top of the wick in the DID gets spunky you can just pull it through snip it till theres clean juiced cotton inside the coil and then carry on vaping xD.

Aslong as your wick is nice and long hehe.

Sounds to me like you're leaving too much wick / loop and it's blocking the intakes so the juice isn't wetting the wick hence the burnt taste. I've been using my kfl successfully for the last few months yet this week have been suffering the same thing. had got lazy with wick length and was leaving it too long.
as others have said - stick with it - it's a great bit of kit.

Hehe ive already had that feeling, first day i got my KFL and wicked/coiled it. Just got it spot on and that was on Tues since then it just hasnt been the same. Should have kept that wick and coil in all honesty as it was near perfect lol.

Thats the thing though, i make sure there isnt a lot of wick..in fact a few times because ive put the wick on the deck then pulled on it to get it tight, it comes out of the coil lol.

Like i said its fustrating but im not going to give up just yet on it, i have a feeling that somehow the wick on the deck is coming loose so is blocking everything up. But ive even tried pushing the wick down slightly so that its just sitting on the deck but still burnt taste.
 
I have a silly question, don't laugh.

A Protank is fine on an EVOD style battery right? It won't use it up quicker or anything?

I only ask because I have no issue with my EVOD at all, the clearomisers or the batteries, but I'd have to fill up a Protank less often.

Does it all work and stuff?

I will not lie to you: it can be a reall ball ache sometimes. When it works though, and that thing just clicks. It is worth it. RSST is really user friendly and I recommend it if you want to go SS mesh.

Think i'll give it a go, I presume I can use other materials as a wick or is mesh best for it.
 
Quick question, which is better ekowool or silica?? ie which gives the better flavour and vapour.

Ordered some silica as someone on UK vapers was suggesting to ditch the ekowool and try some silica instead.

I prefer ekowool, because its thicker and last longer. But some say silica gives better favour, I haven't noticed any difference.
