Having just posted a new thread asking for advice on getting a new soundcard http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18548465

I though I would ask another question on setting up separate audio channels for a gaming headset and 5.1 speakers

What I am wanting to do is have my gaming headset/mic only play audio from the likes of Ventrilo/ TeamSpeak etc and have my 5.1 speakers play the game sound etc.

I can manage to set this up using the Realtek HD Audio Manager but it only allows you to split the audio when you use the front and rear output jacks together. i.e plug Headset into front PC connectors and speakers into the rear motherboard connectors.

I have plugged my headset and speakers all into the rear output connectors and I get sound both through the 5.1 speakers and headphones at the same time, which is not what I want.

Am I right in thinking that I cant do this if I only use the rear audio outputs on the motherboard?

Are you connecting your Z5500 with the analogue 3.5mm cables? Assuming that is correct; how are you also connecting your headset to the rear connections on the motherboard? Splitters?

I have now purchased a Creative SoundBlaster Recon3D soundcard so I can use the headset and speakers independently.

However in answer to your question I was using the 3.5mm jacks from the 5.1 speakers and the headset. With the Realtek HD Audio Manager software it allows you to separate all input jacks as independent input devices.

If you have on board sound and a dedicated sound card I think you can achieve this. Ventrilo/teamspeak let you pick the sound device they use in their settings if I remember correctly?if so get your speakers plugged into the creative card you have and make sure they work in windows / your games as normal. Then plug your headset into the on board sound card so that they never touch the creative card. You should then be able to configure vent to use your onboard sound card for its input and output. Whilst windows is still set to use the dedicated card for everything else.
