You should be by her side gazing adoringly and supportively at her face silently mouthing sweet encouragement to her whilst sharing the experience by patronisingly breathing in time with her in an exaggerated manner. She of course will be visualising re-enacting the most famous parts of the 'Life of Lorena Bobbitt'.
Seriusly though,It has to be one of the most awkward situations to be in...id hate it tbh,When you watch those "One born every min" on TV you often see the "Dads" keep on taking a glance down there and the way the nurse/midwifes look sometimes
Just be ready to be patronised by some moderately educated medical staff. Remember your taxes pay their wages.
Get as much sleep as possible now because you will become a stranger to the concept very soon. Mine is 5 weeks old and I haven't had more than 5 hours on the trot since he was born! Still wouldn't change it for the world

Watched both of them come out, if you know what I mean. Both times I never meant to, but caught a glimpse and that was that. Very weird feeling to say the least
I stood business end getting abuse and grief for the first one and ended up delivering the second. Being at the first ones birth definitely prepared me (as much as you can) for having to deal with the second but as a mate of mines uncle once said
"Being at the business end is like watching your regular burn down. No matter what they do to it afterwards it will never seem the same again"
