Girlfriends due date coming soon

stay up top it is not a pleasant site lol but to be honest for me the most disturbing part was seeing the placenta that thing is just horrible

Just do what most of us men do, stand around feeling like you are always in the way. She may like you to rub her lower back when in labour or she may go all exorcist on your ass and tell you to "get off", my wife found the wet cloth on the brow pretty good though. Also you should get to cut the cord, use the scissors provided and not your teeth though as thats frowned upon :)

Whatever you do DO NOT LOOK INTO THE EYE OF THE STORM.

What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Twice I've been there one was a cesarean where I watched most if it over the little curtain and the other was natural.

All the staff were excellent  and I couldn't think of anywhere I would rather be at that point in life x 2.

It's so surreal that it doesn't matter where you stand.

So, the missus is due to give birth to our first soon, just wondering which end should i stand? The head or the goal end?

The head end. As Robbie Williams said some time ago on the radio (he stayed down the goal end), 'it was like watching your favourite pub burn to the ground'.

Robbie Williams has the emotional intelligence of a dead slug I wouldn't be basing my life choices on his anecdotes.

I even cut the umbilical chord me!

Head or tail mate it doesn't matter just be in there supporting her!

+1 cutting the cord was nice but a bit strange!

Either end and if they tell you the machines don't indicate when your wife is having a contraction don't believe them :p Mine did that, ten hours in the midwife was asking me when the next one was coming ;)

Life changing experience and frankly you'll come out having a whole new level of love and respect for your partner :)

You're a tit.
The staff at the birth of our second a few weeks back were great and friendly, however the staff at one of the scans prior were indeed extremely patronising and most annoying so I do understand the comment above.

However regarding which end for the love of god stay at the top, don't take the risk of going south and having your whole opinion of those bits being ruined. ;)

I had no real choice during the birth of our first.

The wife ended up having a forcep delivery, after multiple complications, so the consultant was down there, along with the sister, 2 medical students and the anaesthetist.

I was just glad both were alive and well! My advice; just support your wife as much as you can. You may not think you're doing much by holding her hand, but I can guarantee you she'll remember that.

All the best :)

After having number 3 last saturday let me tell you it does not matter what you plan for just do what "feels right" at the time. I dont think anybody with a plan gets to see it through. Cut the cord though and enjoy setting them "free" very enjoyable!!

Whatever happens just being there is enough!

Good Luck.

John

Well I chose not to go down there, but still had to put up with the amazing and quite frankly horrific sight of my sons head sticking out of my partners c-section. I did very much enjoy him screaming his head off immediately after coming out, as I know sometimes they don't breathe for a while. That was my biggest fear of all. The rest of it it just a blur, but I did cut the cord.
