Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP today only price

V.tempted by current price, exactly how much wider than a normal card is the platinum? Got a 6950 atm and there is about 1" spare between it and the side panel fan. Also does the 3 slot heatsink effectively block 4 slots?

I've just read a review and it says the cable it comes with is a 2x6pin into 8 pin, so you would need a PSU with 1x8pin and 2x6pin to use it?
 
Absolutely awesome price your a cracking card. There's been some absolutely unbelievable deals on AMD cards recently . . . If only I had more money :(
 
Utterly ridiculous price for such a piece of kit.

The only fly in the ointment is that I don't think I could really justify it as an upgrade from my 670PE. I only game at 1080p so I doubt I'd see much benefit.

Part of me wishes I had a crappier card! :lol:

i think u can have 2x6pin and 2x6pin and for the 6 pin plug in a 2x6pin and leave the 2 to dangle and for the other 8 pin plug in the 2x6pin compltle and u will be fine.
 
that's confused me!

I have 2X6 pin with a 2 dangling on my Antec (14 pins). Does this mean I cannot use it?

Does this restrict me to a 6 and 8 pin card like the DirectCU instead?

You can use one of these if needed. I'm not near my box so cannot check at the moment what is included with the platinum.

Edit - According to the spec your psu should have 2 x 8 pin ?

I bought mine from OCUK on 6th Oct - 6 days later and it's nearly £40 cheaper.

Rather miffed :-(
