Girlfriends due date coming soon

Our first is due in march. Not thought to long about it, my wife is thinking of getting a double to help which will mean I may have some flexibility.

One thing to realize at the goal end is it is very common for the women to get explosive diarrhea or at least poop themselves- they are pushing extremely hard and maybe in labour for 12-42 hours so the chahncex of getting a quick poo break is slim. They don't tell you that too often except in the birthing classes.

Twice I've been there one was a cesarean where I watched most if it over the little curtain and the other was natural.

All the staff were excellent  and I couldn't think of anywhere I would rather be at that point in life x 2.

It's so surreal that it doesn't matter where you stand.

Appropriate thread content to signature ratio.

If you stand at the business end and see what your lovely new baby is doing to your playground you will never want to play hide the sausage agian, my advice is stand by her side but out of view of the goings on and just out of her reach so she cant get you with the iron grip which will crush your bones to powder :D
Im sure you cant do any worse than my dad, he was at home with his wife while i was being born

Congratulations and i hope all goes well for all three of you :)

Our third was born on Monday night. My advice would be stay at the head end, hold her hand, take off any wedding rings etc too before she reshapes your fingers around them :D

Take chocolates or something for the midwifes, instantly gets them on side. ;)

We are expecting our first in December and I'm intending to be there...

My only concern is in July I suffered a spiral fracture of my ring finger, requiring surgery to screw it back together. I need to ensure my left hand is out of reach at all times !!!

Properly excited :-D

Expect that finger to get snapped off, turned sideways, shined up real nice and stuck straight up your candy ass :D

My wife had our first this year. I was up the head end mostly, wiping the sick and sweat off of her face. I did also look down the business end, kind of surreal seeing a head coming out but I'm not particularly squeamish so no bother.

The head midwife was a bit of a harridan, kept telling me I was going to pass out, that she'd seen the signs before. Told her I wouldn't but she still insisted I ought to sit down. I refused, didn't come close to passing out!

If you're squeamish I'd recommend staying head end, but you'll miss out on getting to see your baby before your wife/girlfriend!

The main advice I'd give for the whole experience though, is to ask questions. Even if it seems inconvenient to the staff, there will be things that you'll need to know.

Having been through this myself a few months ago, whatever you might decide now will probably go right out of the window when the time comes! I didn't plan to go down the business end but after a long final stage, the midwife delivering the baby "invited" me to see the top of my baby's head as it appeared. It's a sight I'll never forget but one I'm glad I didn't refuse, it was quite an amazing and emotional experience!

Stay away from the business end

Take lots of snacks (hospital food is general quite rubbish and expensive) and things to watch/read/listen to. For both you and your other half. My wife was in labour for 26 hours so there was a lot of waiting. Watching stuff on the iPad and listening to music took her mind off things.
