I also think that the announcement that people with no current purchases can just buy a single crew member as a player is great!

There is something quite appealing about starting with absolutely nothing, finding work crewing for others, slowly accumulating funds for your first ship and heading off into the unknown. I can imagine quite a few people making their way through the galaxy that way.

Dunno if that's a comment or not :D

Shout if you want the LTI package with Alpha and Beta for $35. I'm more than happy to gift it over if you cover the cost

I was going to wait and get it on steam, but after watching more CR's interviews I can see the guy totally gets it. I am playing Freelancer right now and loving it again after 10 years, feels like a brand new experience again.

Anyway, my point being is, I would love to back the game now. If you have some spare LTI packages, that would be great. Can PPG the money over when you want :)

Well the £20m or so they have raised is nothing, look how much AA games cost to develop GTA was like $300m there is a real risk that you could lose money, they could have problems and just give up like so many kickstarters before them

Given that about $109 million was marketing and £137 million was dev cost for 250 people working for 5 years, Then add in publisher costs and anyone else who had their dirty fingers in the pie i'm not surprised the cost was over $300m

Star citizen however is a team of 80 + few small outsourced parnters eg cgbot has 15 people. No marketing costs as of yet, no publisher costs or anything else other than direct development costs. This means they can do it all for considerably less. They owe no money so it's not as if the sales have to hit a certain amount for them to break even.

GTA is a bad example anyway... average title development is about $50 million and thats with al the publishers etc wading in their costs

Comparing it to GTA V is a terrible comparison......speaking to the Take Two Interactive marketing guys who are in the same building as me at work in Windsor, they spent and absolute fortune on the Marketing for that game....probably 5 times what the cost of SC.

Also GTA V is a massive detailed world....the city details are simply outstanding.

Star Citizen wont need any of that, as space is mainly empty and they aren't even developing their own engine.

I'd imagine they will have raised close to $45 million by the time the game is finished at the current rate, which will be more than enough to get this game up and running and then some.

Just purchase the package you want. Then ask if you can gift that pledge to an original/veteran backer.

Gift it to them, and they can "melt" the package back into credits. They can then re-buy the same package with LTI. If its a little cheaper, they may include an extra skin, when they gift it back to you.

Theres no such thing as spare LTI packages. All original/veteran backers get LTI on all ships and packages until sometime in Nov 2013.

Yeah, but they not create only one system and few generic vehicles. Each ship requires tremendous amounts of work, plus the economy of the game, SP + more complex MP and so on.

Aurora Legionnaire commercial and you can pick one up if wanted until Monday
Very nicely done :)

Concept work for the Retaliator and Gladiator are now posted, links below. Also both are now back on sale until Monday!

Retaliator

Gladiator

Meant to note too, Hornet commercial and brochure is next week :)

An unfinished version of the commercial is seen here form their Citizen Con Event on the 10th
Note both this and the above commercial are all in game footage

Don't know if this has been explained already, but I am wondering, with all these mad prices for these ships and accessories, will people who pay and buy have a serious advantage? I mean will it end up making the game a pay to win type of game in the end? Or are these ships only available right now to buy before game is launched?

Will you be able to use UEC (presumably earned in game) to buy a constellation class ship? As that ship costs north of $200, it sounds to me like that may take a long long time to earn through gameplay, yet someone new will come along and just win with their wallet. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, it is these people who finance a big chunk of the game and make it bigger and better for us all. I am just wondering how the game mechanics will be like regarding this.

Looking at the RSI website though, they have done a great job in making it very enticing to spend I have to say. The new voyage direct store is nice. That buggy for driving around your deluxe bay made me laugh, $15 for a buggy! That said if the game is so good, and it is the only game one plays, I can see it working. I actually think I much prefer for the game to raise money more like this than by buying ships. At least those are cosmetic items in ship which does not affect gameplay.

Also does having UEC going to crate a black market where there will be lots of people essentially gold mining and selling UEC on via paypal etc?

Thoughts? :D

CIG have tried to implement a number of caps to combat this. At present, you can buy ships and UEC, however from what I have read that once launched you can only buy UEC and there is a cap on the amount bought daily/weekly etc. I also don't believe any ships will be for sale outside of the game so the only way to get a ship is to purchase UEC credits and then buy the ship in game. With respect to the ships, the pledge $ prices are significantly lower than the in game prices, an Aurora is expected to cost 3x as much in UEC as it does now in $.

CIG have stated many times over they don't want this to be a pay to win game and so I think these measures plus the fact that ships actually have to be built in the game for them to be available should mean a limited supply of the more powerful larger vessels.

I keep a spreadsheet of our Corps ships. Each week I have to amend the damn thing as some people are buy/melt happy :D

I'm sticking with my 325a for now, but waiting for the Freelancer variants to appear, then I might be tempted as an add-on ship.

Got to remember that the bigger ships dont automatically become better. (DO WANT A BENGAL CARRIER THOUGH!)

This game, unlike something like eve online. Is really designed more around the "fighter" aircraft, the smaller stuff below constelation size, much like freelancer or similar.

That doesnt mean to say bigger ships are bad, but they wont be the mainstay, they require multiple players to opperate to NPC crew which cost money and presumably dont function as well as player. Something like a bengal carrier or an idris will need a LOT of player manpower behind it. the carriers will be used by only the biggest guilds.

While i understand the uneasy feeling, particularly given some of the sheer cost (i cant stop spending now i've got a new job.. ) but i'm confident in time they'll have it well squared away.

at this rate, by the time the game finally comes out i'll have dropped 5k on it >.<

I can't believe how much people are spending on a game that is pre Alpha and could turn out to not meet the hype.

Their money I suppose, but still think it's crazy!

I think its because people really really want a game like this. I know i used to talk with my mates dreaming of a game such as this back when playing frontier or wing commander etc.

And the only thing people can do to possibly make this happen is to pledge. Its the only thing in our power to help it along the way.

still crazy :D
