Anyone tried Blablacar ?

Maybe I could pickup people in the 350z... and make sure they never use the service again :D

£18 to Manchester... try £60 in fuel :D

It would be interesting to see if you put a cool car down, do you get women wanting to ride with you... *signs up*

Would you randomly pick up a hitch-hiker? No.
.
I always pick up hitchhikers, I don't understand the poncy selfish mentality that stops other people doing the same. I picked up a 6' black bloke last month, oddly enough he didn't mug me and we had a nice chat.

It's a sad world where this is considered unusual.

I have picked up the odd hitchhiker, but I prefer not to as I feel I have to be quite restrained in my driving. The last one I picked up got all edgy because I did 80 on the dual carriageway (i.e. just keeping up with the bulk of the traffic).

The one before that turned out to be a smelly crusty who wouldn't stop talking about his anti-establishment views

people will use the website to find out where XXX car is and steal it later surely?

if you have a nice car i wouldnt bother

It's about time this has appeared in the UK. It's massively popular in Hermany and a great way of getting around if you're on a budget.

If I was using my car, I'd make the journey alone or with friends.
If I didn't have my car or didn't want it for that journey, I'd use the train

No thanks :p

I once heard that in Venezula or somewhere like that, they have checkpoints where police flag you down and organise hitchhikers that are going the same direction as you to take rides in your car. It is agaisnt the law to refuse, sounds fun.

That's true of more developed countries as well.

In Canada for example, in remote locations in winter in particular you have to stop and help anyone broken down or hitching.

Errr no?! In some Canadian provinces, for example British Columbia, it is illegal to pick up a hitchhiker. There are signs frequently on highways pointing this out. That's about as far from what you say as its possible to get!

I have my maiden BlaBlaCar journey later today....fantastic idea IMO. Could really help with petrol costs.

If you don't hear from me again though, I've picked up an axe murderer or escaped prisoner from Broadmoor.... :D

Wow what happened to inane banal criticism with stupid pictures and statements ?

Good for you, glad someone on the OC forums isn't an complete and utter idiot !

This was in BC and what a professional driver told me when I lived out there.

Yes its illegal to pick up hitchhikers, but if you are in the middle of nowhere in bad weather, you can't leave people stranded. I'll give you though that it's more likely in such a position it's going to be somebody who has broken down, rather than hitch hiking in the middle of nowhere.

I'd also add that while there are lots of signs prohibiting it in and around Vancouver and the Sea To Sky, its a practise that goes on extremely regularly. I've known people who could only get to work by hitching each day. The Police will turn a blind eye to it.

So it's illegal to pickup hitchhikers, but illegal to not pickup a hitchhiker.

That makes perfect sense, thanks for the clarification.

Well I typed in my commute and was greeted a picture of a scary looking 33 year old man that drives a BMW 316 and offers a ride for £3.
