games crashing, but heaven,Valley and Firestrike not..Crossfire issue?

Hi guys.

I've started playing games for longer spells now, but I seem to be getting crashes on them all. The games are freezing but I can hear them running in the background. My pc is responding so I can del+alt+tab and task manager to kill them but this is getting annoying. The weird thing is, I can run loop after loop of Heaven, Valley, Firestrike for an hour or so (tested) without any issue at all.

I've also ran prime 95 overnight and came in this morning and all is good, it's still running so it can't be my CPU. My GPUs aren't getting hot, (around 55oC to 65oC at maximum load), and the games are even crashing when my GPUs are under 60% load (Saints Row 4 and Deuz Ex) as I'm vsyncing at 60 1080p.

I've tried rolling back to 13.9 WHQL drivers no good, completely cleaned out the drivers and put back on the new 13.11 betas still no good. I've gone in at default settings on the cards, still the same. I just don't know what to do next. I'm guessing just take one of the cards out then gaming to see what happens.

Also, do you think this new PSU I've got may be faulty? Could that be the issue? Any way to check that?

Oh, and this happened during BF4 last night - first crash to date

Looks like a lack of vcore on one or both of the gpu's. What clocks and voltages are you running?
 
Add another notch or two of vcore until it goes away. Either that or back down on the core clock a bit. Doublecheck to make sure you're not throttling and the core clock is not dropping in game as well. If it is bump the power limit more.
 
okie dokie. Will drop it down to 1075 core grrrr. Clearly the Iceq doesn't clock as well as my WF3 shame, will have to make up the fps drop with a new 3770K today hehe

What is the asic of the card? You do need a lot of voltage it seems for 1100/1500. I can get away with 1.175v.
 
The WF3 is 79% but the IceQ is only 63%

I couldn't be pushing to many volts on them could I?

In my experience high Asic cards don't like high amounts of voltage. 1.25v is probably massive overkill for the WF card. It could either be too little voltage for the Ice-Q or way too much for the WF. You'd need to find the answer out to that yourself. Having a high asic and low asic crossfire combo is a bit more tricky im afraid when it comes to high level overclocking.

What you could do is have different clocks and voltage settings for each card. That way you can use the right amount of voltage for each card. Rather than trying to do a one size fits all.

Untick synch gpu settings. Now with the drop down box you can select each gpu individually. You can now set a clock and voltage for card 1. Click save and apply it to profile 1. Now go back to settings, click the drop down box and select gpu2 and setup a clock and voltage setting for card 2. Now go back and save it to profile one. If you keep apply overclocking at system startup highlighted, then each card will have its own individual profile selected and applied on windows boot.
 
I had a similar problem with my 7990 OC. I dropped the overclocking a nad and it sorted the problem out. Sometimes pushing too high is not good.

Having cards at different speeds ??? Will this affect the CrossFire performance ??

I'm just saying its possible. Ideally i think its best to have the clock speeds matched, but it should work ok with different speeds. The main point of my post was for him to be able to have different voltage settings for each card.
 
Im going to drop the cards to 1075 on the core anyway, use less volts and run them cooler. Its not like I'm going to struggle with any game at 1080p lmao. Might loose a few frames, but when we are talking of frames in the 100s it matters not. Ive done my benches at 1125/1550 hehe
 
update

Had a day of gaming with cards at 1080/1550 @ 1.180v without a hiccup in sight. Seems I can bench at 1125 core but that's it. I'm happy anyway, 45MHz difference on the core is probably the equivalent of 2 frames hehe. Cards are lovely and cool and will probably last a ton longer than throwing 1.250v at them.

Result, the same problem I had, could bench heaven etc on higher clocks that were not stable in prolonged gaming sessions :)

Good call. Although I am now interested in differing clock speeds on crossfire. Might try a bit of playing myself to sort out my curiousity :)
