ordered the corsair h80i today for my i7 4770k i was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how well its gonna work?
i do plan on overclocking the CPU im looking at 4.5ghz might be a little much for the h80i i dont know yet

going to be setting it up in push/pull and i would prefer to have it running it quiet mode

It obviously does vary on chip, case, general airflow and fans, thermal paste and you seating it correctly but typically you should expect to see circa 25~33C at idle and anywhere upto high 60's C when under load, perhaps 70 but no higher.

ok good to know :)
ill be running it in a corsair 500r wich has pretty nice airflow, thermal paste ill probaly use the pre applied stuff so i guess ill just have to see what my chip is capable of :)

i wont be going extreme with the overclocking, gonna push it as far as it will go without raising the voltage because as far as i know the voltage is what really raises the heat levels, correct me of im wrong

Not to put a downer on it but a lot depends on the chip. Mine needs 1.3v to do 4.5Ghz stable and even with custom water my temps are in the 70's. If you have a good one though then maybe you'll be able to do it on much lower volts. There really seems to be night and day between these chips and mine doesn't seem to be that bad compared to some I've read about.

Yeah, Haswell chips can be a lottery. Some can't even reach 4.3-4.4 without using 1.35v+ Vcore. I got a bit lucky and my chip seems decent, currently@ 4.6 with 1.245v Vcore.

That sounds a good chip. Mine will do 4.6 at 1.320v which is about as high as I wanna go. Don't really fancy delidding the chip either.

well i knew every chip was different but i didnt there would be much in it, i just kinda thought a 4770k is a 4770k you know :/

meh ill see how it goes i guess i want 4.5ghz but if i can get something decent like 4.2ghz without upping the voltage then i guess thats cool

Mine isnt a stellar chip by any means, 4.5ghz on 1.2625v, (1.2800 at load). But it's a pretty hot running chip. In p95 small fft it will hit the low - mid 90's in seconds. Mid 70's running blend. I avoid such programs now and just use the system as normal.

t103Ninja - I would be interested to know how you get on with the Haswell overclocking. I will be using that same combination shortly when I build my new PC rig.

Have been using OCCT all the time but after upgrading and seeing the 4770k hit 100... I switched to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility that seems a bit better for the haswell line. Now am at 70 running the stress tests.

My chip does 4.6, but have to lay down 1.3v for it to do so. Though if you have trouble overclocking i would drop the Ring (uncore) freq down to 3.5 and get the cpu clock stable.
Mine is running at 4.2 @ 1.9v with the CPU at 4.6 @ 1.3v

Any of you have or had a mini itx motherboard and tried overclocking a K cpu on it?
I have an Asus Z87I-Pro, avexir 8gb 2133 and i7-4770k.
Runing stock right now, I want to make a custom loop before I start doing anything to it.
Right now it runs on h40 with 2 fans, temps in mid 20s idle, mid 40s under load.
I will have a DCP 4.0 and 240mm rad just for this cpu. Hoping to get past the 4.2 without hitting a wall.

ok guys so as i said i would update this thread with my results one thing to note i did cancel my order the h80i and get the h100i instead and im running it with 1 set of fans so no push/pull

currently i have i7 4770k set to 1.25v with a clock speed of 4.5ghz across all cores
running OCCT with puts cpu and ram under maximum load the highest temp i have seen is 81c

i havnt had any errors or crashes yet everything seems stable

Temps look pretty good tbh, give it a workout with a few games as well as often stress tests will pass endless loops but a game can fail in seconds.

yeah downloading a couple of games now

done some regular stuff like photoshop and rendering a 1080p video of sony vegas and its just munching through everything im throwing at it so really hoping the games hold up now :p

another quick update still running at 1250 volts with 4.5ghz gone through stress testing stayed pretty cool and stable

played batman arkham asylum for an hour maxed out while recording it in 1080p with dxtory it stayed stable and my temps where around 65c
so i guess i got a pretty good chip i might see if i can push it a little bit further maybe get 4.7 out of it or something
