Hey all,

With the new (kinda) R9 series announced, would now be a good time to sell my 580s and upgrade to a single card? Reckon I can only get about £200 for both cards but not sure at this point.

Are there any cards worth upgrading to over my 580s? IM intrigued by the 290/290x but we STILL haven't gotten any news (specs and price) yet!

I play at 1080p but use 2 monitors. Rest of my specs are in the sig.

Any advice?

Thanks

Highly unlikely you'd get anywhere near that much for your 580's. What's your budget?

290 series has no firm release date but potentially towards the end of this month.

Budget is likely to be £300-400 can stretch further depending on how much I get for my cards.

It £200 for 2 cards that much of a stretch? That's £100 for each.

Off topic how are u finding the HTC one? I got it not long ago and I like it a lot.

I am using 2 x580's myself and have been pondering over an upgrade too. Figured bf4 would indicate if my system would struggle but i get 80/90 fps on ultra @1080p 120hz so I cant bring myself to do it yet. The nvidia pricing at the moment is too high for the 780/titan etc and if i do upgrade i will probably want buy 2 cards and it simply isnt justifiable yet. My system struggles with nothing so far so might leave it until the 8 series. Plan to stick with nvidia but if it didnt matter to you, amd definitely have the pricing right.

I think your cards are unlikely to fetch that much realistically. I sold my 7950 on the mm only a few weeks ago for £120 collected. 7970's are going for around £150.

Based on your budget I would hazard a guess that you'd be looking more along the lines of 770/(potentially 290) performance and I don't think the cost would justify the small bump in performance.

So single 770 is a little better than 580 SLI?

When I had my 580 I couldn't decide which to go for in the end. The extra vRAM swung the decision however.

Yea I was just looking on anandtech. Doesn't seem worth the price unless I wanna run cooler and quieter with less power. I still may wait for 290/290x and see what price & performance is like before I decide.

Wish I could get on MM but I joined just as the rules changed :(
