dual core i3 or amd quad for £700 gaming

I wouldn't bother with a pre-built system. Whilst they are 'easier' for people that don't have time etc, you don't really get your value for money. I'm pretty sure there's somebody in the NE that will help you build it, or build it for you.

I certainly would, but alas, in the Midlands! (for my sins)

Well thanks, i'm almost inspired to try the build myself now. I am usually OK with flatpack and with kids have an excuse to like Lego again.

Also nice to know OC will build any spec for a price if I do chicken out but i'm starting to feel brave. So now I have to look more at the suggested baskets given and do more research!

So the difference between the latest two suggested shopping baskets is mainly the Mobo, big difference is the new Z87 vs a Z77 and then the case. I would probably go for a better case than the cheaper build like an antex 300 or the coolermaster CM-690 II but the Dominator Lite probably. i'm a sucker for some LED fans i'm afraid.

So as Mobo's are probably what I know least about what advantage will I actually notice with a Z87 vs a Z77 mobo or indeed a £150 vs £75 mobo. Is it more about the ability to upgarde with higher spec card and/or processor in the future without getting bottlenecked or is it the number and speed of ports. I have to say I like the flick of a switch manual overclock feature on the Asus Z87's.

I pretty fixed on a 7950 card and would probably feel safer with a 550 or 600w psu for the minimal cost difference.

So what would I notice with the mobo's suggested, now or in the future.

Where to start?

• It's based on Haswell which is faster clock vs clock than Ivybridge and its newer tech so potentially lasts longer.
• The PSU is made by Seasonic
• The board comes with a free aftermarket performance heatsink,

[FREE Prolimatech Panther CPU Cooler with every board purchased!!

I reviewed the board here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18518312

useful mobo review thanks.

So i'm 99% there with doing my own build and probably have a husband of wifes friend on back-up if it goes wrong. Ive scanned a few utube videos and am excited by the possibility of doing it myself though.

The latest basket looks good and the mobo looks pretty convincing and with the free cooler makes the relative price excellent, any ideas how long the free cooler is likely to stay as part of the offer, are these things very short term offers, there are only 2 left in stock will the offer go with the stock.

I would perhaps do this PSU wise though would have to wait for stock, which I am guessing is a good sign. Slight price increase but modular and a bit more juice.

I'm also really after a slighty better looking case and still looking at the CM-690 or for £50 the Zalman z9 plus, 44 good reviews is rare, and comes with more pre-fitted fans than most for the price.

will also have to watch a load of videos about when it turns on, if it doesn't create a singularity and swallow the earth, about the first boot as this seems almost more scary than the build having looked at the mobo review, though I dare say without wanting to mess with default settings it manageable.

almost ready to take the leap.

One tip I would give when building it (I did it last year after about 10 years since building one). Build the basic setup, mobo, Ram, CPU with HSF on a bit of cardboard outside the case first and do a test start there (you do this by using a screwdriver to touch 2 pins at the same time, the motherboard manual will advise you how to do this and its simple) if it turns on your good to put it in the case as is, if not you haven't gone too far that your scrambling around inside the case panicking.

Good luck, and it is easy in that everything can only fit in a certain type of slot, just make sure you get yourself an antistatic wrist band and go slow.

Stick with the PSU stulid has speced, if you want modular go with the modular version of it(620w £79.99) or the seasonic g 550w(also £79.99).
