*** Official Asus Matrix/Direct CUII Owners Thread ***

On the overclock should I link core clock to voltage and bench or just increase the core clock until more voltage required? Asic quality 62% ish.

No dont link, up the core till crash, up the voltage, re test, up core till crash add voltage, rinse , repeat

When done back down a bit 20-50hz

On air that is phenomenal. At those clocks that will be within touching distance of a stock 780 I would hazard a guess!

Yep impressive, the best I've seen is 1380 on stock cooler messing with these, was bench only stable and only just had the odd artefact/sparkly, 1350 no problem or 1337 just to be leet. But I've not seen many exceed 1350, their sweet spot seems around 1250ish which is still damn good as many cards 1150 is their upper limit due to lack of voltage adjust.

They were a bargain whilst they lasted, nearly all sold out now and the R280 version though just as good is over £300 :(

So I seem to be of many to get a new card – Matrix Plat. A long time upgrade coming from GT8800GT.

Firstly, bloody big box – this has now doubled up as cats bed.

I didn’t get the AMD gold ticket/code (raised webnote). The idle sound is higher than my previous card, but under load is quieter with initial testing.
Had driver problems under W7-64. Firstly tried “amd_catalyst_13.11_betav1.exe” then drivers from Asus direct then “13-9_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe”. The later had more install components and worked.

Only tried Metro Light so far which was useless before – impressed so far ;)
Tomorrow will see how much it overclocks – though I am happy with the defaults.

I wish I can say the same for my asus 7970 matrix plat. Mine hitting 95c as soon as I get in any game and GPU throttling since hits on 99-100c making any game unplayble.

Sad day for me.

My plat in my Intel system runs 1300/7000 24/7 without a hitch. The one in my AMD system is 1200/7000 stable.

These cards love voltage so don't be afraid to give it some beans. They also need a bit of tweaking to get the very best from them. You need to balance out the settings to find the sweet spot.

Even so the stock performance is very good and for the price these could not be beaten.

Will post here from now on. Currently using 1160 core. Will try to get a better oc based on info in this thread but if I can't get any higher, I will still be happy as the platinum is a very nice bit of kit.

Just got my Matrix today and since the rest of the stuff I ordered comes tomorrow I didn't bother making it work today, will see how it runs tomorrow and post the clocks which I'll manage to get. One thing I am scared is that it will be a bogus card and run at 90C+ while stock, read a lot of bad stuff about them so hoping for the best....

Got myself two of the Matrix Plat 7970s for CF!

Moogleys - do you think I have a bit in the tank then?

Is Heaven Valley the best way to ensure stability? Or maybe even BF3?

Thanks

I would try reducing your voltage a little. Try around the 1.250v mark for 1200 on the core and game with it. If the clocks unstable Bf3 will weed it out. You may even find you can go a touch lower. For reference I need 1.225 for the clock you're running.

Got my Matrix Plat a couple of weeks ago as a fill in until the 290x launches.

Only clocks to 1180 on the core but stays cool and quiet which is more important.

Overall its an ok card for a decent price.

Sounds like a bad mount of the cooler your card should be keeping under 70 degC at stock when gaming or running benches.

Also what case do you have, you need good airflow in there

How is your case air flow ? also check the screws on the cooler are tight enough, this card should only be seeing 70 degC at stock / low over clocks.

I'm having issues getting anything newer than the drivers on the supplied CD (8.9?) to install on my system using Vista-64.

The Install Manager that came with the new legacy 13.9s does not even list the driver install as an option, only the APP SDK runtime and HDMI drivers. :(

I'm now downloading another driver, this time the 9.02s from the Asus site...

Edit: Should the "golden ticket" have been in the monster sized box? If so, I've not spotted it yet.

Are you trying to install the latest WHQL from AMD ? These should work, what card did you have prior to this? did you uninstall the previous driver. Try Driver Sweeper to clean out the previous drivers. you should raise a CS ticket to chase up your Golden ticket they'll sort you out pretty quick.

Had same issue, the non beta drivers from AMD worked (13.9).
Also never got the gold either ticket - i've raised a webnote.

Just successfully installed the 9.02 package, albeit the CCC does not give me any options to change image quality settings.

The 13.9 WHQL package manager says display driver 9.002.0.0000 is up to date, but it will allow me to update CCC. What is odd is that is claims "Net 4.5" and "C++ 2012 x64" are not installed on my system when they definitely are.

I upgraded from a PNY 8800GTS 512, I uninstalled Nvidia Forceware and PhysX before changing cards, but I did not run Driver Sweeper. Think I might need to start over and run DS.

I get the impression that Vista-64 is limiting my driver options, but I found it odd that the Vista-64 supporting legacy 13.9 package (a different one to the 13.9 above) will not install display drivers or CCC.

Well gave my card a workout last night and the silicon lottery doesn't appear to have been kind to me :(.

If i take the core above 1180 it artifacts badly. I was hoping to achieve a 1200 clock but can't make it happen. Played with voltages from 1.2v to 1.35 with the fans set at 100% to eliminate heat being an issue and the moment i go above 1180 it starts to misbehave. Tried lots of tweaks but couldn't get it to stop tearing / artifacting.

I'm hoping once the card is run in it might be able to achieve more. But for an out of the box overclock it's disappointing as the card on paper at least promises so much. On the plus side the memory clocks to 7200mhz without issue.

Going to try tonight to get more from it but very interested in what others find with theirs, specifically the voltages / settings needed to achieve the clocks.
