Uniroyal rainsport 3 released

I was after Rainsport 2's when I needed 4 new tyres - only two were in stock so settled for 4 Dunlop Maxx RT's - according to test's they were almost identical in wet weather performance.

Can't fault them yet. - don't think wear rate will be very good though.

Found the rainsport 2 to be average at best on my fiesta ST

They were fitted to the car when I got it.

Certainly wouldn't consider them on any performance car.

Uniroyal are owned by continental I think. I'd like to see a wet tyre test including these, best continental model, F1AS2 and Michelin SuperSports in both warm wet conditions as in 20c+ and cold wet conditions such as 3c, which help with choosing a wet track/road tyre for M3 as the Federal 595 RSR's are great in dry or warm damp conditions. But full wet and cold impossible to get heat into them and even on track they are crap as a wet tyre.

Porsche is same Pirelli Corsas just refuse to turn on in the cold wet conditions, car is all over place, can see why a GT3 owner sold them to me last winter now, lol. Gonna re-fit the SuperSports soon as they were amazing in the cold/wet conditions in comparison and heated up far easier and quicker in such conditions.

I have used RS2s on my last few cars and I love them. I am not a guru on tires but these tires have earned my trust and gripped when I have needed to most. I would be interested to try RS3s when I need tires next.

I'm ditching the no-brand tyres on the front this weekend - it's time. Down to about 3mm tread and the understeer/wheelspin over the past week in the wet/cold has been at comedy levels.
Won't be waiting for these though, assuming they'll make my size - CSC2s all round now :)

I have been using UR2 for a couple of years now and will be getting 4 new ones put on by the end of the year.

I had Bridgestones Potenzas before and they weren't as good imo (didn't feel as well stuck to the road in the wet), but having said that, they were on their way out (at around 6mm when I bought the car), so obviously brand new UR2 would have felt better.

Any price news on the UR3?

Happy to see new Rainsports as I have always been a Rainsport 2 fan :) ran RS2's on a couple of Preludes and my mkiv Supra TT, will prob put some of the RS3's on the LS430 when it needs new tyres if their as good price/performance as the RS2 were in their heyday.

RS2'S were great on my s2000, even in the snow I never got stuck. Very impressive.

I had rainsport 2 all round, replaced the fronts with premium contact 5's a few months back. There's not much in it really, the conti is slightly better all round, apart from thewwet where I feel the rs has the edge.

Fitted price seems to be about £90 in 205/55/16 which puts them firmly in the premium price bracket, however camskill seem to sell them unfitted for £48, which on paper looks like bargain of the century.

It will be very interesting to see how they stack up in some group tests.

Looking on Camskill:

Uniroyal Rain Sport 3 - 225/55 R17 101Y XL FR TL - £99.80
Uniroyal Rain Sport 3 - 245/45 R18 100Y XL FR TL - £120.40

very nice pricing, hopefully it's not just placeholders, may warrant the upgrade to 18" rims I've been eyeing up :P

Would be interesting to hear what other tyres the Rainsport endorsers have used for comparisons

so the only person posting a comparison against the RS2 is someone with a set of worn potenzas...

my experience with rainsport 2 was that the grip levels were no better than average. feedback and steering response were ok but certainly nothing to write home about and wet and cold weather performance was a little better than the tyre that replaced it. They took a long time to wear out but that was pretty much the only feature about the tyre that I liked.

I put a set of Yokohama Parada Spec II on the car after the rainsports and they were better in every respect apart from the way they dealt with standing water.

It is rather bewildering that a tyre like the RS2 with a relatively soft sidewall is getting such praise from people with vehicles with massively benefit from stiffer sidewall tyres

I don't see why anyone would choose these tyres over a continental/bridgestone/dunlop/michelin given the price they are.

anyone else have any comparison info here?

Yes.. think I paid £72 per per corner for mine which I would say is upper mid range pricing for that size, my conti PC5's were about £10 each more.
The sidewall is a weakness on the RS2, but then my pc5's hardly feel any stiffer, if at all.

That said I drive a V70, which doesn't give a massive amount of tyre feedback anyway!

Anecdotally I found this too (Skoda forum discussing RS3)

I just hope the sidewall is a lot more stiffer than the RS2's.

For Fabia VRS size, according to Camskill website, they will come in 205/45R16 87Y. This is a higher load rated tyre of '87' than the old ones, which were '83' rated.

I've had RS2 on my 306 (195/50/15) and I was certainly impressed with the increased grip coming from what was on there - which was a mis-match of Bridgestone and some other brand.

The wet grip was far better than what was on the car, and the dry grip was around the same (which wasn't bad to start off with). For the price (at my size) I'd say they're near unbeatable.
