7970 plat.. awesome card ....now to sort the coil whine

hey guys this is my first card with whine . going to try maxing card for a few days to see if that drops the whine since that seems to be the general opinion. if that doesn't work what should i try next?

Is it whining at idle or just under load?

If underload try limiting your fps or upping/lowering the card voltage. Like you say some people find hammering the card for a while reduces it.

Or a combination of all the above. Although rare some people find different PSU's help as well

My best advice would be to OC it as high as possible and run Heaven for a few hours. I remember hearing a sort of whine from my 680's after putting water blocks on them but was in the process of hard benching and by the time I had finished, the whine had gone.

I've been doing this to my 7970 since just after their launch and it made no difference at all

100% sure it's NOT the PSU? Matrix Platinum use solid caps, surely it shouldn't whine?

Are you using an OCZ PSU?

it's just under load. it is also in the mrs pc which is even more annoying because i have to suffer the whine without the benefits. yeah i will hammer it into submission to see if it makes a difference .
