Best Executive car for 15k?

OP you should look at cars over 2 years old. £15k will go a long way if you're willing to compromise. VW Phaeton would probably be my pick and even £10k can buy you a decent one, albeit with high miles.

Mondeo all the way if it was me, it is supposedly the best of the bunch according to most mags.

2nd would be an accord but not sure on the price.

3nd place would be a superb but I'm not fussed on them and the few times I've been in one as a taxi it just felt cobbled together from seat, vw and audi's leftovers not the nicest place to spend 40k miles a year.

Outside choice is an insignia you will get more or less top spec for £15k, not as nice as mondeo to drive apparently but it will probably have more toys

BMW 5 SERIES 09 520d M sport £15k
BMW 7 SERIES 08 730Ld SE 4dr £15k

Audi A8 09 3.0 TDI Quattro Sport £15

Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi Elite Nav [160] £14k

Merc S or C class, look around the 09 plate area though.

Did they all have that horrible wood dash?

For £10k you can get the 05-07 3L V6TDI for decent mileage i've found, But that wood interior and the low MPG count will put me off it.

None of those meet the criteria of being 2 years old or less.

Another shout for a Mondeo.

Perhaps we should ask the question about why he wants 2 years old? I know that some companies specify you must have a car of a certain age if you opt out of the company car scheme.
However, i don't know of any company that actually enforces it :p
If 2 years is a hard limit and there is no flexibility, then we need to get some clearer criteria from the OP :)

The only thing going for the Volvo is comfort which the Mondeo also has. In all other departments such as practicality, drivability, reviews would suggest the Mondeo is better.
And what would be on the top of your list of priorities if you did 40,000 miles a year?

A comfy car with Sat Nav and active cruise control for effortless motorway driving, and that can be interesting to drive should I find myself on a back road somewhere, which at this price point and age would be the Mondeo. I know Volvo also offers the former features but I also prefer the look of the Mondeo.

In what way isn't it?

The Volvo seats would be a nicer place to spend 40k a year IMO.

Apart from being perceived as a more premium brand, they should be fairly similar elsewhere.

....and the Volvo s80 is better than either the s60 or the mondeo. For 40k a year it's basically a magic carpet with comfy armchairs. I've never owned a more comfy vehicle.
