Hey guys, just a quick post really, I'm currently in the process of buying a Macbook 13" White as I need one for web development and what not.

I'm just wondering is it worth me buying a cheap one for around £200-250 and purchase some cheap DDR2 ram as it only comes with 1-2gb.

Or should I wait and save up a little bit more and possibly get a cheap MBP (unibody) for 450-500.

It's only going to be used for coding, photoshop and emails, nothing more really.

Advice?

I purchased one for my other half and it was fine for 2 years or so, but now the battery failed and I cant find a replacement that doesnt cost half of what the laptop cost - find it hard to run on just the mains as the power connector isnt that strong and easily gets knocked out and then the laptop shuts down.
Just a warning - they are quite old, dont expect the battery to last long/for long

Would you be happy purchasing a similar specced Windows laptop with that budget? (Answer: No :p)

These laptops are running pretty damn old specs, build quality isn't amazing on them also. That plastic loves to crack on the palm rest.
As said above, the batteries in most of these things will be knackered.

I'd save up some more cash if you want a Macbook.

Definitely don't go for anything older than the unibody.
If i were you i'd save up quite a bit more and get an i series at least..

You don't need a MBP for web development. Consider the needs and use before the image

it's for coding, adobe series, ftp applications and so on. The company I work for, also uses a lot of apple based applications.

Using a Mac makes my job a lot easier. I guess it's more of a want than a need, but I consider it a need, because it will benefit me in my industry, so yeah.

for £250 I would look for a second hand dell inspiron...heck, my friend got a brand new one this time last year for £300 (i3, 6gb ram, 500gb hdd). You could put oracle virtualbox on it and run OS X
