As the thread title suggests which is faster guys?

My Google kung-fu is failing to find a comparison.

7950 CF - Its faster and allows you to play with higher details/AA.

Unless you play obscure games with no multi gpu support or you have a general disliking for multi gpu solutions then 7950 crossfire is the obvious choice. £75+ cheaper and comes with 6 games worth £60.

My two cents. :)

I voted for 7950 CF but it isn't quite as simple as that. Most 7950's CF should be faster than a 780 when overclocked but if you get a peach of a 780 that sits happily all day long at 1300Mhz, it will be sitting pretty good next to a low clocked CF 7950 setup.

Look at the bench threads to see how they compare Stulid.

Andddddd you don't have the extra hassle that comes with multi GPU systems.

There's also some cheap 7970's keep popping up, as long as they weren't much more than the 7950's, thats what I'd go for.

I ditched the cards before it all came out, tried the things everyone said using RP but was never as good as just a single card. I did sorta forget they "fixed" CF lol after i posted.

So unitard moment for me :(

Crossfire is a very nice experience with frame pacing. :)

Mind you i didn't have too much microstutter before that. Only in a few specific titles. Sleeping dogs was one of them. The difference with frame pacing on was dramatic in this particular title.

Left a bad taste in my mouth, so it's just one of those things i'll probably never do again :(

Saying that though, still undecided....

7990, 780 or 290X (would say 690, one on the clearance...though expensive! :D) can only have a maximum of 1 card in my new rig, and only got 360+240+240 (30mm 30fpi) rads cooling them, so not sure how well that would cool a 7990.

7950 CF is faster - around 25-30% in most games (talking an overclocked comparison here) so that is quite noticeably faster.

BUT - I would still get a 780 personally. Why? For me it was about having a single fast card as well as having a card worth a fair whack on the second hand market when I upgrade to 20nm. Also the option of having 3D Vision again on my BenQ monitor helped.

In a straight like for like comparison though, 7950 CF is faster but you then have the increased heat and noise which isn't a massive problem obviously but it is a factor.

I moved from 7950 CF to a single 780 myself so speaking from experience ;).

I benched a few games at 1080 and 1440 so will post the results in here if you're interested. It wasn't a bench for a massively accurate comparison, more for me to decide which set up to keep so bear that in mind but I don't think there will be any massive inaccuracies. Perhaps a percentage point here or there.

I can offer some 1440p stock and mild overclock benches for 7950 Crossfire from my 13.10 beta thread. I will re-do them soon because 13.11 beta driver (the new 290X driver) seems to have improved scores across the board for games and benchmarks.

Now prepare for a big wall of text.

I will provide some crossfire scaling results i took earlier from four games with consistent in game benchmarks.

7950's @1125/1575

My memory clock is 25mhz lower as i had some memory error correction kicking in at 1600mhz in my earlier 7950 overclocked benchmarks which was decreasing my fps a bit.

I would go GTX 780 with one eye on the future and the possibility of adding a second later.

As to which is faster, most of the time 2 x HD 7950s will beat a single GTX 780.

It's OK Matt I already did all my bench comparisons and can't be bothered to do them again when it's so tedious lol.

I had a look and didn't back my results up when I reformatted for Win 8 :(

25-30% is what you're looking at though. To me that's significant enough if you want raw power. You can't beat what 7950 CF offers on price/performance. It's absurd.

Its not that TEDIOUS. :D

I'm still waiting for those benchmarks you promised me. Stock, your 24/7 clocks and the max clock possible. Then ill see how accurate your 25-30% analysis is. Not that i have any reason to doubt your percentages btw. I never need a second excuse to do some benchmark graphs. You can take your time though as im in the middle of a fresh install myself and don't have anything installed yet. ;)
