My 7950 results were actually likely to be more accurate as they had 3 runs each :). 780 was one run just to give me a feeler.

I can't bring myself to sit through them all again. Not yet anyway. Maybe if I get bored :D.

Thanks for this topic, I have been deciding the same thing.

Surely a single card will still be the better choice here though? I won't start the debate on ATI vs Nvidia drivers etc

Given the points already raised, do you want a faster but cheaper setup? 7950CF. Or do you want a slower and more expensive setup? 780. You need to decide if you want to go with the vote or go with your own hunch.

lol it isn't as simple as weighing up those two points. Sure they are massive factors but not the be all and end all.

Any potential issues of 7950 CF and a Capture Card? I do a lot of streaming :)

Is the capture card even needed anymore?

Funny you should mention that old chap, free plug for my video coming up.

I recorded myself playing BF4 the other day on 7950 crossfire setup, running off the gpu's. Performance took a 15-20% hit but it still ran well as you can see.

To answer your question. No issues with streaming as far as i know with either card. But i guess more grunt is always ideal.

Not for streaming PC games, just use Xsplit. That will capture the screen, though sometimes i struggle to get games working in fullscreen so gaming in borderless windowed mode is the only way (other than using Dxtory to capture the screen to stream)

If streaming console games, then yeah a capture card is needed. I assume you mean like those avermedia thingys, unless i've completely lost the plot :D

I would go with a single 780 personally.

I know 7950 CF makes more sense from an enthusiast's point of view, but I would take the simplicity and lower power draw of a single GPU all day long. Just my opinion.

Use OBS mate, a lot more flexible then Xsplit and it's free :)

I guess what my question was more aimed at was compatibility issues, 2 cards on CF + a capture card...any experience anyone? Would an i5 2500K be a bottle neck?

I went from Crossfire 7950s to a GTX 780 and am so pleased I did. I so rarely got top performance out of the Crossfire cards that the majority of the time I'm getting far better performance from the 780. I'd never, ever Crossfire again personally. Colossal ballache.

At the moment this forum is AMD heavy so you know where the votes will go ;)

Single card vote for me no matter if its AMD or nvidia.

Personally I would get a GTX780, this is however entirely dependant on myself pretty much exclusively playing WoW and BL2 (two games that heavily favour Nvidia), and I water cool which means the cost difference is negated as a pair of decent HD7950's plus water blocks and bridge will cost ~ the same as a decent GTX780 and block. Add to that the fact that a pair of HD7950's clocked to the wall will put out almost twice the heat of a clocked GTX780 and I would probably have to increase my rad space or speed up my fans which means either expense and inconvenience or annoyance.

If none of that was a factor however I would be straight on the HD7950's as their a bargain ATM.

I think you will not be needing crossfire setups for 1080p.

However, a crossfire setup may be worth while for 120hz gaming and resolutions above 1080p.

If none of the above applies to you, you have the following option:

-7970 (£221.99)
-Sapphire R9 280X Toxic (255-270)
-GTX 780 (470-570)

If you don't want to save money and want the highest performance, I would wait for R9 290X and then compare it with GTX 780.
